Allah says in the Quran describing the essential attributes of the Servants of the Merciful destined for success: “Successful indeed are those who are humble in their prayers and who turn away from all that is frivolous and who give charity.” (Al-Mu’minun 23:1-3)

A believer considers his time as a real capital; it is his capital to purchase paradise, so he or she cannot afford to squander it away by being occupied with the frivolous. So, to spend your precious time reading greek mythology is not the way to live your life. You may do so as an occasional outlet, but to be addicted to it is not at all befitting a believer who knows that we are accountable for spending our time.

The Prophet said, “One of the signs of a person’s Islam is that he does not occupy himself with that which does not concern or benefit him or her.”

So, I urge you to restrain yourself and stop wasting your time on such frivolous pursuits or pastimes.

Remember the words of the Prophet, “If anyone sits at a place where he does not remember Allah, deprivation will descend on him from Allah; and if he lies at a place where he does not remember Allah, deprivation will descend on him from Allah.” (Abu Dawud)

In another hadith, we read: “Those people who leave a gathering in which they have not remembered Allah, will conclude it as if it has foul odour similar to that of a rotten carcass of a donkey. And it will be a cause of grief to them.” (Abu Dawud)

Almighty Allah knows best.
