Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullah ya Syaikh
Is every word of the sahaba of Rasulullah, the tabi’in, and the tabi’ut tabi’in (al-salaf al-ṣāliḥ) should be followed (even if we don’t know based on what Hadeeth and/or Qur’anic Verse of their words)?
Wa alaykum as-salamu wa rahmatu Allah wa barakatuh
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Thank you for your good question.
We do, of course, revere, love, and respect the true scholars of our Ummah throughout generations, let alone the Sahabah and the Salaf. We accept what is in harmony with the Qur’an and the Sunnah. We also consider changes in times, conditions, places, etc., that may lead to the changes of the ijtihad.
Blind imitation is not acceptable. Therefore, scholars in every time should do ijtihad to guide their communities to what is in harmony with the Qur’an the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him).
May Allah accept your and our good deeds, ameen.
Almighty Allah knows best.
