Mosque Is Faraway: Can I Pray at Home?

09 January, 2022
Q Isha prayer is late at night and the mosque is 15-20 minutes away from my house. My parents fear for my well-being. Can I pray at home?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Responding to your question, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the  Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states:

If you have reasons to be fearful of your safety when going out to the mosque for Prayer, then you are allowed to pray at home. That is a valid excuse for you to pray at home.

If, however, the situation improves, and there is no reason to fear, you should start going to the mosque for Prayer.

Almighty Allah knows best.
