In this fatwa:
- The majority of scholar prefer reciting few verses after coming back up from sujud at-tilawah if the surah ends with the prostration verse and then do ruku.
- Some Hanafi and Hanbali scholars view that the ruku suffices in place of sujud at-tilawah if one ended his recitation with a sajdah verse.
Responding to your question, Dr. Hatem Al-Hajj, Dean of the College of Islamic Studies at Mishkah University and a member of the Permanent Fatwa Committee for the Assembly of Muslim Jurists in America (AMJA), states:
Hanbali scholars give the praying person who made sujud at-tilawah in prayer, in case the surah ends with the prostration verse as in the case of Surat Al-Alaq, the option to recite some verses from the following surah after coming back up from the sujud and then bow for ruku or make ruku directly.
Hanafi, Maliki and Shafi`i scholars prefer reciting a few verses between rising from sujud at-tilawah and bowing.
These verses may be from the following surah if the sajdah was at the end of the surah. This is to respect the order of movements and avoid having ruku follow sujud directly.
There is no definitive evidence, but I prefer for you to follow the recommendation of the majority which is to recite few verses before making ruku.
It is noteworthy here to clarify that the Hanafis and Hanbalis held that the ruku suffices in place of sujud if one ended his recitation with a sajdah verse.
