How Should Female Converts Choose Their Wali? (Video)

08 January, 2022
Q After conversion to Islam, convert sisters face a major problem when they get married; they do not find a marriage guardian (wali) who will be responsible for the best of their interests. My question is: how should female converts choose their wali?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

1- A female convert can go to her local mosque and see if there’s a full-time Imam who can fulfill the role of wali.

2- If she cannot find an imam in the locality, she can even go outside of her locality and find an imam or a student of knowledge who can fulfill that role.
