Husband Travels a Lot & Ignores His Family

10 March, 2020
Q I’m married for 13 years. I’ve 3 children, a 12 and 8-year-old girl. I just had a son who is 4 months old.

My husband doesn’t like me. He travels a lot and works for his father to make him happy. He works with his father.

I understand Islam says parents are very important, but where is the value of the wife and kids? I need my husband when I talk to him about this. He stopped responding to me. He has not called me for two weeks. Sometimes I want to leave him but then I know I can’t live without him.

His parents never tell him if he does wrong to us. I’m in a self-torture state. I don’t know what to do.

Answer

Salam Aleikom,

In this counseling video:

It is not acceptable that a husband does not fulfill his wife and children’s right.

Tell him honestly how you feel about the situation. Make him feel you are Ok with that he fulfills his parents’ rights, but that you feel neglected.

Have social support from your mosque, family, and friends.
