Why Is The Quran Considered A Miracle?

08 May, 2017
Q Why is the Qur'an a miracle that is more significant than other miracles?

Answer

Salam, Thank you for contacting Ask About Islam with your question, why is the Quran considered a miracle.

I want you to think about something.

If you give a presentation from memory to a group of people and then you were asked to repeat the same presentation the next day, would you be able to repeat it the same exact way without a single word changed?

Think about it.

The reality is, if you say anything today from memory- not written- and you try to repeat it again tomorrow, you will never be able to repeat it the same exact way—especially if you have no reference or nothing written to go back to.

I remember in my very first class of Mass Communication at the university, the professor taught the class a crucial message through a little game. The game was that the professor called the first student in class and said something in her ear.

Then the professor asked her to say it to the person next to her. Then the person next to her would say it to the person next to her … and so on until the last person in class had heard the message.

By the time the message reached the last person, that person was asked to repeat it before the whole class, and we all laughed when he did because the message was quite distorted.

So we learned that a message can’t simply be repeated or transmitted from memory without being changed.

Now here is the most important part …

Do you know that The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) recited the same exact message impeccably from memory for 23 years?!

How can a man who didn’t know how to read or write or have a written reference, recite the same message steadily, sharply, and articulately for 23 years from memory without changing a word?

Allah tells us in the Quran:

{Indeed, it is We [Allah] who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We will be its guardian.} (Qur’an 15: 9)

And

{Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred,  Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. It is not but a revelation revealed} (Qur’an  53: 2-4)

There are momentary miracles that happen before a group(s) of people and benefited them solely. For example, the parting the Sea for the Children of Israel was a miracle for them. But this won’t necessarily benefit you today directly or personally.

But there is, however, a miracle that has been divinely preserved from the minute it was revealed until the end of time, thus it acts as a renewable source of guidance, healing, satisfaction, awe, and inspiration for all people at all times.

That’s truly the greatest of miracles. This is how men and women from different walks of life, ethnicities, cultures, backgrounds find personal peace, guidance, healing, light, and purpose through the Qur’an whenever they sincerely reach out to it, and this remains with them and grows with them throughout their life journey—it never ceases to teach them, and they never cease to find what they need in it.

Allah tells us in the Quran:

{Say, “If the sea were ink for [writing] the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it as a supplement.} (Qur’an: 18:109)

Explore the Qur’an and delve in its meanings, and you will truly realize the magnitude of this gift that has been descended upon us, a revelation from the Creator to all mankind.

I hope this helps answer your question. Please keep in touch.

Salam.
