Salam. I have two questions regarding Tahajjud prayer. I stay up throughout the night when I'm preparing for my exams. So, can I pray Tahajjud without sleeping? Plus, what is the ruling on witr? Am I supposed to pray witr after Isha and then again after Tahajjud?

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Praying during the late hours of the night is one of the greatest supererogatory acts of worship; as such it merits tremendous blessings and spiritual rewards.

So, you are to be commended for doing so.

Ads by Muslim Ad Network

Tahajjud, however, is praying after waking up from sleep; it is still more rewarding as it takes the effort to wake up and pray. Having said this, I must also point out, if you think you may not be able to wake up you still will be rewarded for praying. Allah is Merciful, and He does take into account our weaknesses and circumstances.

As for witr, you don’t need to repeat witr if you have performed it after Isha. We read in a report, “There is no need to pray witr twice during a single night.”

If you are planning to pray Qiyam (supererogatory prayer during the late hours of the night), then you might as well postpone witr till the end.

In our part I the country, Mawlid is celebrated by organizing Quranic recitation competitions and Hadiths reading and talent show case of the religion Islam. Is this therefore a Shirk or Bid'ah?

We are allowed to commemorate the Prophet’s birthday as long as we stay clear of innovations that are forbidden in Islam.

Organizing Quranic recitations, nasheeds and speech competitions and feeding the people to express our joy for the occasion is not an innovation – as ruled by the vast majority of scholars of the past and the present.

We are going for Umrah via Frankfurt, where should we enter ihram, can we go to Mecca and then next day go to Mikat and enter into ihram?

You have one of two choices:

1- First option is to assume ihram when they announce the approach of Miqat in the plane. If you are travelling by Saudi airlines, they have a musalla where you can change into the ihram attire; in case of females, they do not have to go through this requirement as they are allowed to wear their regular attire.

2- The second option is to assume ihram after landing in Jeddah:

If assuming ihram in the plane is not possible, then you can postpone ihram until you arrive in Jeddah. As ruled by some of the eminent scholars of the past and the present, those who travel by air or ship are allowed to assume ihram in Jeddah.

Assalam o alaikum wa RAHMATULLAHI wa barakatuhu.... I want to ask about the concept of making sketches in islam? Kindly Mention that authentic hadiths that support this fatwa that making sketches ate not allowed.. And also explain that what kind of pictures are not allowed. .. ?It is said that making sketches of living things is not allowed.. But what about flowers, plants and even mountain and rocks.. Now we know that according to science and islam these are also living things.. And what about making diagrams for purpose of education? As science students have to draw diagrams of many living things.. And also small children are explained many things with help of pictures.. What about that? And kindly also explain that are only making those sketches prohibited which highlights every feature of face or also these simple dots and brackets used as emoji on social media? Jazak ALLAH khair

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh
It is not haram to draw such pictures for the purpose of education through illustration. The intent of the law prohibiting images was that in pagan times, it was a direct means and way to shirk(associating other beings with Allah).

In other words, these things were only forbidden because they served as direct means and avenues to shirk. Therefore, if there is not even the remotest possibility of shirk, there is no reason to consider it as haram, especially if there are tangible benefits in drawing them.

It is important to keep in mind that today drawing has become a very powerful medium of communication. For this reason, Muslims cannot simply afford to neglect this vital medium of communication; if they do, they only do so at their own peril. Therefore, as long as you are drawing pictures for the purpose of education or as a medium of communication there is no need to consider it sinful or haram (forbidden). May Allah help us to see the intents and purpose of the Divine Laws and thus, practice them with understanding. Ameen.

Assalam alaykum , I know there are a lot of dua's for a women to make while pregnant , but can you please tell me what dhikr or dua or khatam should I do for my sister for safe easy and healthy pregnancy and baby? .. She is having a lot of difficulties while pregnant and she usually don't have much time to read long surah , she lives with very strict family and there aren't any good doctors, please advice me and make dua for my sister.. Thank you

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Allah is All-Merciful and Compassionate; He has promised to answer the prayer of the distressed.

So, I would recommend the following du’as:

1- First, read hamd and salah on the Prophet and read Fathihah and Ayat al-kursi.

Ads by Muslim Ad Network

2- Then recite the following du’as:

Laa ilaaha illaa antha subhmaanaka inne kunthu mina al-zzalimeen

(There is no god but You; glory be to You; verily, I am one of those who have wronged against their souls).

Yaa hayyu yaa qayyoomu bi rahmathika astaghithu

(O the Ever-Living One, and the Source of all beings, I seek Your help and assistance in regards to my condition; so help me out).

Laa illaaha illa Allaahu al-azheem al-haleem, laa ilaah illa Allah rabbu al-arsho al-azheem

(There is no god but Allah, the Great, and the Clement; there is no god but Allah, the Lord of the mighty throne)

Allaahumma laa sahla illaa maa ja’althahu sahlan wa antha taj’alu al-hazana idhaa shi’ta sahlan

(O Allah, there is nothing easy unless You make it easy; so make this task easy for me)

Allaahumma inee a’odhu bika mimmaa ajidhu wa uhaadhiru

(O Allah, I seek refuge and protection with You from the pain and affliction I am facing now; so help me out).
So, I would urge your sister to be consistent in the practice of dhikr and du’a. Allah will make it easy for her. I pray to Allah to grant her a comfortable and smooth delivery and bless her and her child.

Assalamu alaikum shaykh. As far I can remember there is a hadith "many men reaches perfection of faith, but among women only four women reach perfection of faith Asiyah,Maryam,Khadija,Fatima". I have some questions regarding this. if you clarify my all points I will be grateful 1) Does this hadith indicates that human perfection is very common among men but it is very uncommon for women? 2) Does this hadith indicate women are inferior to men spiritually? 3) Does this hadith indicate that women are inferior to men in faith and religion?

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

We cannot take traditions of the Prophet out of context and rush to interpret them piecemeal.

We may do well to take the words of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in their right spirit rather than taking them out of context. He intended to encourage men and women to work harder to excel themselves. So, while mentioning the fact that there are a lot more men who excel, he meant to urge women to exert themselves so that they do not lag behind. The Prophet is a teacher, and he wants all of his students, including males and females to excel.

Ads by Muslim Ad Network

The hadith should in no way be taken to imply that women are inferior to men. How can we do so when the Qur’an is emphatic about the potential equality of males and females in regards to spiritual excellence.

Allah says: “And thus does their Lord answer their prayer: “I shall not lose sight of the labour of any of you who labours [in My way], be it man or woman: each of you is an issue of the other.” (Aal `Imran: 3: 195)

VERILY, for all men and women who have surrendered themselves unto God, and all believing men and believing women, and all truly devout men and truly devout women, and all men and women who are true to their word, and all men and women who are patient in adversity, and all men and women who humble themselves [before God], and all men and women who give in charity, and all self-denying men and self-denying women,  and all men and women who are mindful of their chastity,  and all men and women who remember God unceasingly: for [all of] them has God readied forgiveness of sins and a mighty reward.” (Al-Ahzab 33:35)

SalaamI am in a huge dilemma. I don’t know what to do. I am hurting but don’t know whether I am in the right or wrong. My parents relationship has never been good. My dad doesn’t work and mum has everything on her shoulders. He provides for his mother and sisters and the sisters kids but neglects my mother and my siblings. He takes on no responsibility whatsoever. I am the eldest of 4. Because of the way my dad is I tend to avoid him to avoid conflict because I always tell him that what he is doing is wrong. He hates me for this. My other siblings keep everyone happy but behind my fathers back swear at him and are disrespectful. My dad now puts my siblings against me and has convinced them I’m the route cause of anything. Yet all I have ever wanted is a functioning family system. I just point out to my dad when he is in the wrong and I do the same to my mother. I am lost. My dad swears at me, the most dirtiest swear, shouts at me, calls me names and has gone so far as making my siblings feel that I am the one who is in the wrong. He lies about me to my mum. He will tell her that I swear at him even though I can vouch for the fact that I will swear at his family, I admit that, but not at him, ever. He calls me a bastard. I don’t know what to do. I feel like if I want around everyone would be happier.I have always been obedient. Never allowed anyone to raise a finger at my parents. Qualified as a Doctor whereas my other siblings have never made things easy for my parents, in terms of university or finances. I’ve had my fair share of struggles but always tried to get them sorted myself. Please help me. I don’t know what to do.

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

I empathize with your situation. I also pray that Allah inspires you with patience and provide you with consolation and relief.

Although you are allowed to save yourself from harm inflicted upon you, you can never cut off your relations entirely from your father or mother or your close blood relations.  Cutting off blood relations is one of the gravest of sins in Islam. Therefore, I would advise you against it.

Ads by Muslim Ad Network

While saying this, I do not mean to say that your parents are not accountable for their alleged cruelty towards you. They will be responsible for their actions; you will be rewarded for your patience and acting kindly towards them.

I am basing this on the advice of the Prophet to one of his companions who was consistently victimized by his blood relations, in spite of his kindness towards them.

So, I would advise you to remain on a high moral ground. If you do so, you will be vindicated. Allah will reward you abundantly.

i killed a animal not knowing how bad it was too part of it was not my falut because my gun scope was not lined up but I wanted to kill the bird I know its bad what do I do to get forgive for this sin?

Islam teaches us to be merciful towards all of God’s creation. The Prophet said, “Show mercy to those on earth; if you do, you will receive the mercy of Allah.” ‘One who shows no mercy to God’s creation will not receive the mercy of Allah.”

Islam mandates the faithful not only to refrain from hurting others; instead be engaged in rendering acts of kindness. The Prophet said, “You stand to gain blessings of charity for any and every act of kindness you show towards any of the living beings.”

In light of these, it is indeed a grave sin to kill or cause the death of a bird or any animal except for food or to save the life of humans.

Ads by Muslim Ad Network

Therefore, you ought to turn to Allah in sincere repentance and commit yourself to render acts of kindness.

Perhaps one of the best ways of expiating for the grave offense you have committed is to contribute to the welfare of animals or volunteer to prevent cruelty to animals.

There is nothing wrong with reading the Qur’an from your device or phone. In this case, such devices are comparable to a library. You have different books in your library; you pick one to read. So, there is nothing wrong for you to select the Qur’an from the books or materials stored on your device.

However, while saying this, let me rush to add: While reading the Qur’an you should observe the essential etiquettes.

AoAI need guidance about important matter: A person is living with his 1st wife for the last 22 years without any child. Now he got 2nd wife, But wants to get child from 1st wife. He wants to use 2nd wife's egg with his own sperm and put to his 1st wife's body through IVF Procedure.IS THIS PROCESS ALLOWS IN ISLAM?Advance thanks for answering this question.

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

This procedure is not allowed in Islam.  You cannot take out the egg from the 2nd wife to be implanted in the womb of the 1st wife:

For details, let me cite here one of my earlier answers on this issue:

Ads by Muslim Ad Network

Scholars and jurists have discussed this issue, which is most commonly known as in-vitro fertilization, and they have concluded that it is perfectly acceptable within the boundaries of marriage to do so. In other words, it is permissible so long as both the sperm and egg involved in the procedure come from the SAMEmarried spouses. Thus, if the husband’s sperm is extracted and it has been fertilized with the egg of the spouse inside a test tube, and then it has been implanted into the spouse’s womb for conception, that is perfectly acceptable according to the teachings of the Shari`ah.

While approving the above method of conception, scholars have unanimously condemned the procedure in case a third party is introduced into the equation: That would be the case if either the sperm or egg involved in the above process were obtained from either man or woman who is not related to each other in marriage.

Assalamualaikum.. I am having a doubt in saying a iqamat in Salah (obligatory prayer) when we are praying alone.. not with jamath ..?? Please clarify me the answer?!!! If we have to tell are not??

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Adhan and Iqama are Fardh Kifayah (collective duty). Adhan is intended to announce the arrival of time for Salah; while Iqamah meant to inform the start of Salah (in the congregation).  So it behooves the Muslim community in every city or village to ensure that these symbols are instituted and practiced.

If, however, a person is praying by himself, it is also recommended for him to offer adhan and iqama; he may simply read the Iqamah if adhan has already been called in the city.

Ads by Muslim Ad Network

The prayer, however, is still valid if a person forgets or omits adhan and iqama. Since both of them are excellent forms of dhikr, one may do well to call adhan and iqamah before starting the salah.

Here is a tradition from the Prophet which recommends even a loner praying in solitude to  call adhan:

Imam Malik and others report on the authority of Abu Sa`id al-Khudri: The Prophet told Abu Sa`sa`ah: I see you love to spend time in the desert tending the sheep. So, if you are in the desert or with your sheep, and you want to call adhan, make sure to raise your voice for no member of the species of jinn or humankind would listen to your adhan without acting as a witness for you on the Day of Judgement.

Having said this, I would rush to add: If a person is praying alone in a Masjid where the Jama`ah has been performed, he should not raise the voice while doing so.

One of my muslim friends has married a reverted boy in secret. This boy was her classmate . He was hindu . but both of their families don't know about the marriage and as much as I know my friends parents don't like the boy. The boy is not regularly praying namaj and he is also confused about his believe and religion. Is their marriage valid?

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

If they were married as Muslims, the marriage is still intact unless he has denounced Islam.

A person remains a Muslim as long as he has not denounced it.  The fact that he is slack in offering his prayers does not automatically take him out of the fold of Islam.

It is best that they both receive proper counseling.

Assalamu alaicoum! Is it true that our Prophet Muhammad (sas) participated in murdering of around 500-700 Jews during the so-called "Banu Karayza genocide", robbed caravans and killes poets who wrote satiric poetry about him? Please, explain.

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

To understand the Prophet’s dealing with the issue of Banu Qurayzah, we need to keep in mind the following facts:

1- Banu Qurayzah broke the pact of peace they signed with the Prophet (peace be upon him); they committed treason not once but twice, and collaborated with the enemies who laid siege to Madinah; they were determined to exterminate the tiny Muslim community in its entirety.

Ads by Muslim Ad Network

2- What they committed was treason in the most blatant form; as such it was inexcusable. The punishment for treason according to the Law of Moses was nothing short of execution.

3- They were the ones who chose Sa`d b. Mu`adh as the arbitrator as he was their ally in pre-Islamic times; and he is the one who ruled that their combatants should be executed while sparing others.

4- Those who use such instances to paint the Prophet as a war monger may do well to recognize the facts that the total number of casualties of all of the wars of the prophet never added up to more than two thousand on both sides. Compare this with the millions of lives exterminated and the wholesale destruction unleashed upon many countries by America and the imperialist enterprises all over the world.

Let us remember the prophetic words of Jesus (peace be upon him):

“Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” (Matthew 7:5: King James Version).

For details, I would also urge you to read the following article:

Re-Examining Banu Qurayzah Incident: here is the link to it:

Re-Examining Banu Qurayzah Incident

5- As for waylaying of the caravan, it also ought to be studied in the context: The Prophet and the believers with him were driven out of Makkah leaving their possessions and assets in Makkah; so the Prophet’s campaigns directed at the caravans were intended to compensate for some of the losses.

6- The Prophet ordered the execution of combatants including those who were stirring up war. In those days the role of poets was in no way lesser than those who fought in the battles; as the Prophet told his poet Hassan ‘Your words are hard-hitting than the swords and lances.”

I want u to elaborate further for me if the prophet (PBUH) really married Aisha (RA) at the age of 9 and why?

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

The best way to look at the Prophet’s marriage to Aishah is to consider it as part of his divine mission. Aishah more than any other of his wives became one of the highest channels of transmission of the Prophetic legacy.

For details, let me cite here one of my earlier answers:

The Prophet’s marriage with Aisha must be best seen through the perspective of his divine mission and its transmission to posterity.  Aishah’s role in it was inestimable. This is clear for anyone who studies closely her life and work as well as her outstanding accomplishments- as a scholar, teacher and mentor.

As one scholar rightly said, “Perhaps there is no woman in the entire history throughout the world who can be compared to her in her career as a teacher, scholar and mentor.” On this, you will find details in my article on Aishah posted here: https://aboutislam.net/shariah/prophet-muhammad/a-perfect-woman-1-2/

Assalamu Alaikum, Is it a valid hadith that we can keep asking for our definite wishes to be fulfilled after each Fardh Prayer? If yes, can we do it in our own words for our After-Life? Is there any reason that our duas for Akhirah is not accepted? If yes, what are they? Can I make dua and dhikr frequently in my own words using the same words whenever I wish? jazak Allahu khayran

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

I have never come across such a tradition.

We learn from the Qur’an and hadith that Allah answers prayers. However, since He alone is the all-Wise and all-Knowledgeable, He alone knows what is beneficial for us and what is harmful. So, He gives what is best for us, and withholds what is not good for us.

Ads by Muslim Ad Network

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “There is not a Muslim who prays to Allah – unless he asks for something sinful or involving severing blood ties – without Allah granting his request in one of three ways: He grants his wish (if it is good for him); or keeps it for him as a treasure to bestow on him in the next world; or averts some harm (which was decreed for him) because of his or her prayer.”

In other words, Allah answers our prayers, according to His perfect wisdom; for He alone has full knowledge of what is good or bad for us.

So, it behooves us to pray to Allah while trusting His judgment.

As-salam 'alakum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuThere is something I have been trying really hard to understand for years now, it is regarding the order of creation. I have seen the fatwas say that the Earth was created, then the 7 Heavens, then the Earth was spread and everything within the Earth was created including the mountains. Here is my confusion.Quran 41:10-12"And He placed on the earth firmly set mountains over its surface, and He blessed it and determined therein its [creatures'] sustenance in four days without distinction - for [the information] of those who ask. Then He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, "Come [into being], willingly or by compulsion." They said, "We have come willingly. And He completed them as seven heavens within two days and inspired in each heaven its command. And We adorned the nearest heaven with lamps and as protection. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing."Quran 79:27-32"Are you a more difficult creation or is the heaven? Allah constructed it. He raised its ceiling and proportioned it. And He darkened its night and extracted its brightness. And after that He spread the earth. He extracted from it its water and its pasture, And the mountains He set firmly"As you can see above, Surah Fussilat mentions the mountains before the Heaven, while Surah Nazi'at mentions the mountains after the heaven. I heard an argument in some other places regarding the word "Thumma". I have seen some say that the "thumma" mentioned in Quran 2:29 and 41:11 isn't for chronological order but to contrast between the heavens and earth. Could this be the correct view?Jazak'Allah Khair

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

The source of confusion is the inaccurate rendering of the above verses. I would urge you to refer to the Meaning of the Holy Qur’an in Today’s English  (Extended Study Edition) by Yahiya Emerick: I cite here excerpts from his rendering of the above verse.

“Say to them, “Are you rejecting the One who created the earth in two stages? Are you making others equal with Him? That is the Lord of All the Worlds!”

Ads by Muslim Ad Network

He placed well-rooted highlands upon (the earth) and (put many) blessings within them. Then He measured out every (physical and ecological system), so there would be sufficient resources (for all living things, a process that was accomplished) in four stages. (It’s a) balanced (system to provide for all those) who ask (for their needed resources to survive).

He also applied His design upon the sky, which was (filled with a kind of) smoke. He said to it and the earth, “You will come together willingly or unwillingly.” They responded, “We come willingly.”

Notes: I have presented verses 9-12 so precisely because there is an unfortunate misunderstanding that has led some critics to hold that eight separate stages of creation are mentioned in this passage, causing a contradiction with the other verses of the Qur’an that always mention the earth, or world, being created in six days or stages. This inaccurate misunderstanding is due to the fact that the Arabic text here has not been precisely translated by most English authors according to its syntactic structure.  Verse nine is a stand-alone question (preceded by the command to say or tell) that is meant to be orally asked of the pagans. It is not grammatically part of a series that continues uninterrupted into verses 10-12 (Ma’ariful Qur’an) After the question in verse 9 is asked, then verses I 0-12 explain the highlights of the earth and sky’s creation, both of which add up to a total of six stages or days. (lbn Kathir) This is, by the way, an extremely common Qur’anic device: throw out a question, and then give the answer.

Modem science had identified four distinct stages in the development of the earth. Stage one is called differentiation, a time in which heavier masses sunk to the core of the earth while lighter materials moved towards the surface. Stage two is called differention, in which the earth was strong enough to withstand the constant bombardment  of meteorites and comets. The third stage is known as the flooding stage, and it involved the free flowing of water and lava, along with the release of associated gases. Rain and the appearance of oceans occurred at this time. The final stage is called slow surface evolution and it is currently in operation today. This is the phenomenon of gradation and uplift of the crust, continental drift and also plate tectonics. This is also the stage in which living organisms arose.

‘The early atmosphere of the primordial earth was filled with particles and dust as a result of the constant bombardment of the surface by meteorites and cornets. The ‘joining’ of the earth and its atmosphere was caused by gravity, as gravity (aided by the earth’s magnetic shield) held the various gases in place, rather than letting them escape into space, so in that sense the two had no choice but to bond. Some modem commentators hold that the “smoke” refers to the nebulous gases of the entire universe. The general trend in the Qur’an is that when the Arabic word as-sama ‘ is mentioned, it means the sky (see 6:125), and when the plural as-samawat is mentioned, it usually refers to outer space or the upper heavens. In this instance, however, both terms are present. Therefore, it seems to be denoting a more immediate presence around the earth and its more localized footprint in the cosmos, as verse 11 mentions sky (as sama ‘) and verse 12 denotes that sky being turned into many skies (as-samawat), and thus my rendering as layers of the sky.

Please refer also to his rendering of the verse 27 of Sura 79 on page 732.

Assalsmu alaikukum shaikh if women show brilliance in education and have brightest career and profuse earning should she remained unmarried cause if she marries this may challenge islamic dynamics of marriage(especially when husband earns less or no money) as it is the sole job of husband to provide and lead the family not of wife? Are strong, intelligent ,genius ,brilliant, bright, talent women threat to marriage ? Are they wearing pants and being masculine because their fault is ,they earn more money than their husbands and support family? Are these women considered as fitna(trial, tribulation, test) and bad in marriage? If they really are ,is marriage for those women whose educational and professional background are not good ,who earn less than husbands and who are weak? I am upset that some people nurture this idea about successful working women ! Isn't this judgemental attitude cruel and unfair? Is women's education and career something threat to marriage!? I would be grateful if you would clarify that matter according to true islam.

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

It is wrong to say that women who are educated and talented are a threat to marriage. The source of this misconception is the ‘secular’ notion of considering man and woman as if they were rivals.

It is contrary to the Quranic vision of tawhid. Thus Islam, instead of pitting men and women as rivals, treats them as a unity. The Qur’an emphatically states that both men and women are created of a single essence or soul; therefore, they are partners and protecting friends of one another.

Ads by Muslim Ad Network

The Prophet’s marriage with Khadijah should illustrate the above point. Khadijah was an entrepreneur and one of the wealthiest persons in Makkah; she married the Prophet even though he was poor; she supported the Prophet wholeheartedly – sacrificing everything for the cause of Islam, braving all odds.

Muslims are to look up to Khadijah as the mother of the faithful and an ideal marriage partner.

In conclusion, education and talent do not prove an obstacle; instead, it should make a woman confident and assertive, and as such, she can build a stable marriage with a man who is righteous and God-fearing.
