If a person dies as a believer

Wa `alaykum as-salamu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

Allah alone is the judge and He alone has the right to send people to heaven or hell. All that we can say based on the revealed texts are the following:

1- There is no salvation for someone who dies in a state of disbelief in the existence and Oneness of Allah.

2- Those who die in a state of self-surrender to Allah having done good works will be saved. Those who are guilty of major sins and have repented before death will not be punished; otherwise, Allah may choose to punish them, although eventually they will be taken out of hellfire and admitted to paradise.

3- As for those who renounced their faith before death will be consigned to hell fire.

We are not to speculate further on such matters. Rather we must refer the matter to Allah while recognizing that our knowledge of the unseen realities is limited. The true reality of such matters will be revealed to us only in the next life.

As believers we ought to say: We believe in what Allah has revealed without indulging in idle speculations.

Allah Almighty knows best.
