Wa `alaykum as-salamu wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh
In the Name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Mercy-Giving.
All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad.
Yes, sister, it is a sin to have a relation with a man- let alone to be a non-Muslim. Muslim women are not allowed to marry non-Muslim men. Allah Almighty says in the Quran what means
“And you shall not marry polytheistic women until they believe. For a believing bondwoman is most surely better than an polytheistic woman- even if she should please you. Nor shall you marry [your believing women to] polytheistic men until they believe [in God alone]. For a believing bondman is most surely better than a polytheistic woman- even if he should please you. These call to the Fire [of Hell], while God calls to the Garden [of Paradise], and to forgiveness, by His permission.” (Al-Baqarah 2:221)
A Muslim woman has to be an example in her manners, conduct, and bashfulness. You need to learn more about your religion and its teachings; particularly, with regard to contacts with the members of the opposite sex. Islam intends to build a community based on chastity, modesty and bashfulness.
Therefore, Islamic teachings have laid restrictions on the interaction between marriageable men and women to block all ways to evil practices. Islam takes prohibitive measures and does not wait for evil to take place. Women have been commanded to observe hijab, which is much more than a head scarf; it is a lifestyle and a way of conduct.
Both men and women have been commanded to lower their gazes and not to look at members of the opposite sex except for a legitimate reason. Unnecessary mingling between marriageable men and women is not permissible and any contact has to be within the Islamic guidelines in this regard.
All evil practices between men and women are results of neglecting such teachings. Many non-Muslims have converted to Islam when they realized these facts and compared them with the loose life style they live in with all its negative impact on individuals, families and the whole society.
May Allah protect you and guide your heart.
Allah Almighty knows best.
