Is Microblading Halal?

25 July, 2024
Q As-Salamu alaykum. My question is about eyebrow microblading which is a new women's cosmetic surgery. Some women say is not a tattoo so they think it is halal. Is eyebrow microblading halal in Islam?

Answer

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu waRahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

This technique of implanting pigment after the creation of fine incisions in the skin is the definition of the prohibited tattoo.

Answering your question, Dr. Muhammad Salama, PhD in Islamic Studies in English, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences al-Madinah International University (Mediu) states:

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed a woman who does tattoo and the woman who asks for it to be done for her.

Microblading by definition is a form of permanent makeup that provides a means to camouflage missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of simulated hair using fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigments. This technique of implanting pigment after the creation of fine incisions in the skin is the definition of the prohibited tattoo.

Allah Almighty knows best.
