Islamic Relief Spreads `Eid Joy with Toy Drive in Ontario

As Muslims wrapped up `Eid Al-Adha celebrations, Islamic Relief Canada held a toy drive on Canada Day, marked on July 1, to share `Eid joy with many families in London, Ontario.

With more than 80 toys already collected for kids., the Islamic Relief distributed them to families on Saturday at the London Muslim Mosque.

“We just had Eid a few days ago, so we have families coming in today who not only got a toy, but they are getting a bag of meat from a local butcher,” Saimah Sarwar, fundraising specialist with IRC, told CTV News.

Taking place on June 28, `Eid is a special holiday for Muslims which focuses on giving to those in need.

Traditionally, kids usually receive presents or cash from their family or relatives during `Eid celebrations.

“The toys are based on category and gender so we had different toys from babies all the way up to age 12,” says Sarwar.
