Muslim Women’s Voice in Videos on Instagram: Allowed?

10 March, 2023
Q I made videos of home remedy and skincare product on Instagram. So can I use my voice in such videos without any music?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

Muslim women may use their voice to communicate beneficial information. While doing so, they use an appropriate and modest tone and style.

Responding to your question, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and an Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states:

You may use your voice to communicate beneficial information. While doing so, use an appropriate and modest tone and style.

Allah orders the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him) while speaking to men, “So do not speak too softly, lest the sick at heart lusts after you, but speak appropriately.” (Al-Ahzab 33:32)

It is common knowledge that the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him), including Aishah and others, used to teach, speak, and answer questions from both men and women while observing proper etiquette. Thanks to these, we know that over two hundred scholars narrated traditions from her.

Therefore, you may use your voice to provide information and help people with your expertise.

Almighty Allah knows best.
