Query about tiny traces of oil from chicken coating (non-halal) being in contact with fish

27 May, 2016
Q Salam Alaykum, I got a query about eating fish burger. I just want to know eating fish burger from a restaurant, which is not Halal, where there are tiny traces of oil from chicken coating is possible (but not defenite) to come in to contact when frying fish. Please read the following answer from McDonald's in UK. "We cook all of our fish products in a dedicated fish vat. However, we filter the oil in all our vats to ensure it is kept in good condition and during this filtration process there is a possibility that tiny traces of oil that has been used to cook other products such as our coated chicken may come into contact with the oil used to cook our fish. Beef and pork products are cooked on the grill rather than in the vats so are not affected by this process." Source: http://www.mcdonalds.co.uk/ukhome/whatmakesmcdonalds/questions/food/halal/is-your-filet-of-fish-halal.html Would this be lawful or doubtful. Jazakallah

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear questioner, we would like to thank you for the great confidence you place in us, and we implore Allah, the Almighty to help us serve His cause and render our work for His Sake alone.

It is permissible to eat fried meat and fish from these restaurants, subject to two conditions:

  1. That it is not fried in the same oil as the non-halal chicken or in vessels in which chicken was fried, until they have been washed, because the non-halal chicken is dead meat and is impure.
  1. The meat should be halal.

Allah Almighty knows best.
