A British Muslim man is running 313 km from Oldham to London while fasting Ramadan to raise funds for a local UK charity.
“The running has been a struggle and my body has had to adapt,” 47-year-old Charity worker, Afruz Miah told Manchester Evening News.
“It is a struggle, but it’s also the first Ramadan without my family, Ramadan is a time for family and I’m having to sacrifice that.

“But I’ve been to places like Burundi and refugee camps in Rohyinga and I’ve seen children with no parents and mourning widows so that has kept me going.”
Miah took his biggest challenge earlier this month by the start of Ramadan.
Running 15 km a day while fasting, he has so far passed halfway mark of his huge challenge to raise funds for the UK charity Global Relief Trust (GRT).
Currently in Northampton, Afruz has raised £52,991.92 out of the targeted £97,969.
Inspired by the efforts of the late Sir Captain Tom and Dabirul Islam Choudhury, he decided to embark on his mammoth run to raise money for GRT.
He plans on reaching the finish line in London on 8th May.
“I’ve been able to engage a lot of people, I’ve managed to teach people about Islam and Ramadan, “I’ve been explaining the cause to people and they’ve dug deep into their pockets.
“I’ve had people from various towns reach out to me, run with me, and some have brought me food to break my fast, so I haven’t spent a penny on food through this whole thing.”
