Egypt’s Al-Azhar University has won the 2020 Enactus World Championship for their project converting shrimp shells to spices, organic fertilizers, facemasks, and other products.
“My sincere congratulations to my sons and daughters, students of Al-Azhar University, for winning the first place in the world in the (Enactus) competition for entrepreneurship and community projects,” Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayyeb wrote on Facebook.

The Enactus World Cup took place between 8 and 11 September as a virtual event due to the pandemic.
It offers social enterprises and student social entrepreneurs the opportunity to win a €45,000 prize.
Al-Azhar University team qualified to the competition after winning the local Enactus title, overcoming 56 universities.
In September global competition, the team came first defeating teams from Canada, America, Germany, China, and other countries.
The 2nd Place National Champion went to Wilfrid Laurier University, Enactus Canada.
Every year, a select group of 3,000 student, business and academic leaders from around the globe meet at Enactus World Cup to showcase the entrepreneurial action and shared innovation that transforms lives and creates a better future.
The final competitions are qualified from over 72,000 university students down to the National Champion teams from 37 countries.
Each team presents their projects of entrepreneurial action that are not only making a difference in the world. They have the momentum to create new careers, spark business innovation and deliver fresh energy for social impact.
This is not the first time for an Egyptian team to win the international competition.
Last year, a team from Cairo University won the Enactus World Cup in the event that took place in California.
