World Celebrates `Eid Al-Adha on Friday, July 31

`Eid Al-Adha is expected to start on Friday, July 31, after Saudi officials have confirmed that the moon of Dhul-Hijjah was not sighted on Monday, July 20.

The announcement was made by Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court, Gulf News reported.

The court said that Tuesday is the 30th of Dhul Qaeda, and Wednesday will mark the first of Dhul Hijjah.

`Eid Al-Adha will also start Friday, July 31, in Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Jordan which follow the country (location) of the (Hajj) rituals, i.e. Saudi Arabia.

Religious authorities in India and Bangladesh said they had not received confirmed report of moon sighting on Tuesday, July 21.

Hence, `Eid Al-Adha will be celebrated in the two countries on Saturday August 01, 2020, ummid.com reported.

Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs through the National Council for Moon Sighting has also called on Muslims in the country to look for the new moon of Dhul Hijjah from Tuesday, the 21st of July, Daily Post reported.

Eid Al-Adha

`Eid Al-Adha, or “Feast of Sacrifice”, is one of the two most important Islamic celebrations, together with `Eid Al-Fitr.

It begins with special prayers to mark the day. Muslims then offer udhiyah, a ritual that commemorates the great act of sacrifice Prophet Ibrahim and his son Isma`eel.
