We live in a time when people are sharing all the good that is happening to them. A new job, a new baby, a vacation, a new car, mashaAllah. But all of their goodness can cause us to feel less satisfied with our own life.
Now don’t worry, I’m not going to say stop using social media. It’s a great way to stay connected to our loved ones.
But how can we avoid comparing ourselves to others? How can we feel blessed and content with what we have?

Alhamdulillah, the Quran and hadith give us a simple, effective way to achieve contentment.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised us that we look to those who have been given less. (Muslim)
Many of our brothers and sisters in Islam are facing hardships after hardships. These are the people we want to spend time with. Trust me, after spending an afternoon visiting someone that’s sick, you’ll be more thankful for your health.
Trusting in Allah’s provisions
We must remember that Allah Almighty is Ar-Razzaq, the All-Provider. By spending time with those less fortunate, we are more likely to appreciate, value, and give thanks for every blessing Allah has given us. Unlike if we spend too much time on social media.
I’m sure many of us have got off our phones or computers feeling not good enough, pretty enough, smart enough, or fortunate enough after scrolling through our newsfeeds. How does this honor the abundance of goodness that Allah blesses with on a daily?
