How To Ask Questions in Islam?

In terms of Islamic etiquette, we have a description in the Sunnah of our Prophet (pbuh) regarding various subjects. So how do we ask questions in Islam?

Then how should we ask questions about the Quran and Islam in general?

Mufti Menk explains that there is a Sunnah for it and that we have to keep respectful manners

He is showing how some people are approaching questioning while having “studied” their subject. Likewise they are paying attention to the wording to keep a maximum of respect.

On the other hand there are people who simply throw their question to the interlocutor in the form of a “I disagree”. Such behavior isn’t in accordance with Islam values.

When we need Islamic advice about the Quran or Islam, we have to pay attention to our tongues.

Indeed, these are the words of Allah!

Even if the subject can be difficult or shocking for us, we have to keep a rigorous way to explain our confusion.

First we need to make sure of our intentions (neyya).

Think about it: Are we asking a question because we really want to understand or because we want to prove our point?

Once we know why we seek advice, we are better prepared in case the answers are a bit challenging.

Indeed it isn’t just about the Quran but also about getting closer to the manners of our Prophet (pbuh)
