Overcoming Fear of Witchcraft & Getting Married

24 July, 2023
Q Assalamualaikum. I have been wanting to marry a guy who fits all the descriptions of a religious, practicing Muslim and he has already proposed marriage by talking to my parents. We had to cancel the wedding 5 times in 4 months because everytime he tried to enter the country that I live in, there have been weird, unexplainable obstacles that stops him from coming and doing the nikah. Either his visa gets delayed, his leave from work gets cancelled or he gets a travel ban due to misspelling of names or his visa expires due to all the delay. It has been a tough time for our family dealing with all this and we are unable to understand if this is the result of the istikhara that we have performed. Also, I have been afflicted with sihr, hasad and ayn and I strongly react when ruqyah is read on me. My ex fiance had challenged to destroy me by not allowing job or marriage or growth because I refused to marry an abusive man. I have been facing similar obstacles when I try to get a job too. Either, I want to run away and quit the job or I feel like I'm better off not working. There is a heaviness on my chest and I have quit quite a few jobs in a short span of time. How do I know that this marriage is not worth working for because those obstacles are a result of Istikhara and not because of Sihr? In my heart, I have always felt at peace everytime something did not work out after praying istikhara. But, my heart is not at ease and I still want to keep fighting to marry this man. How can I know the difference?Jazakallah khair.

Answer

Short Answer: Your ex-fiancé is not God; he cannot and will not prevent you good rizq (sustenance) if Allah has decreed it for you and if you seek the help of Allah. Recite the chapters of cure from the Quran such as Surat Al Ikhlas, Surat Al Falaq, and Surat An-Nas three times at dawn and dusk. As well as Surat Al-Fatiha and Surat Al Baqarah. Also, make sure to read the morning and evening adhkar on a daily basis. Also, make self-ruqyah. When you persist on the aforementioned cure, insha’Allah things will be facilitated and you will get clarity and guidance on how to continue. If, after that, either you or the suitor felt turned off from one another or unwilling to continue finding solutions, then, in this case, you can let go.

Walaykum Asalam wa Rahmat Allah (May the Peace and Mercy of Allah be upon you),

Thank you for sending your question.

First of all, we have to make one extremely important point.

Your ex-fiancé is not God; he cannot and will not prevent you good rizq (sustenance) if Allah has decreed it for you and if you seek the help of Allah.

No one and nothing in this entire existence has more power than Allah, not your ex-fiancé’, not the Jinn, black magic or evil eye. Nothing.

These things are there to remind us to seek the Help of Allah more powerfully, they’re not there to defeat us and they cannot do anything without the Will of Allah.

Trusting & Seeking the Power of Allah

You have to remember that the creations do not have more power than the Creator.

Allah says:

“…Say, “Then who could prevent Allah at all if He intended for you harm or intended for you benefit? Rather, ever is Allah, with what you do, Acquainted.” (Quran 48: 11)

 And Allah says:

“Say, “Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector.” And upon Allah let the believers rely.” (Quran 9: 51)

And Allah says:

“And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, “We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practicing magic].” And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah. And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them. But the Children of Israel certainly knew that whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share. And wretched is that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew. And if they had believed and feared Allah, then the reward from Allah would have been [far] better, if they only knew” (Quran 2: 102-103)

You have to believe that Allah will help you. Submit to Allah only; do not submit to fear of the creation. This is the essence of “Tawheed” (pure monotheism).

You might have been afflicted with harm. But this is not the end. Allah The Most High the All-Powerful can bring relief from every affliction.

So, right now, what you need to do is seek the help of Allah powerfully and the cure He prescribed.

Cure from the Quran and Sunnah

You need to be more consistent and steadfast about seeking the help of Allah in order to overcome any traces of harm that has been done against you.

Among the recommended verses and adhkar to say daily and regularly in this period are:

– Reciting Surat Al Ikhlas, Surat Al Falaq, and Surat An-Nas three times at dawn and dusk.

Abdullah bin Khubaib (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

“The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to me, “Recite Surat Al-Ikhlas and Al-Mu’awwidhatain (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas) three times at dawn and dusk. It will suffice you in all respects.” [Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi].

 – Reciting the powerful Surat Al Baqarah.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) says:

“Recite Surah al-Baqara, for to take recourse to it is a blessing and to give it up is a cause of grief, and the magicians cannot confront it.” [Sahih Muslim]

You can recite Surat Al Baqarah daily until you feel better, after that, you can make it a habit to recite it every three days.

-Recite Surat Al Fatiha as the Prophet said that it is Ruqyah (healing incantation).

Also, Ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported:

While Jibril (Gabriel) was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), he heard a sound above him. He lifted his head and said: “This is a gate which has been opened in heaven today. It was never opened before.” Then an angel descended through it, he said: “This is an angel who has come down to earth. He never came down before.” He sent greetings and said: “Rejoice with two lights given to you. Such lights were not given to any Prophet before you. These (lights) are Fatihah-til-Kitab (Surat Al-Fatihah), and the concluding Ayat of Surat Al-Baqarah. You will never recite a word from them without being given the blessings it contains.” [Muslim]

-Recite the morning and evening adhkar on a daily basis as they shield and protect the person daily from different types of harm. Neglecting them, accordingly, breaks this shield and makes one more vulnerable to the evil of different sorts.

-You can do self-ruqyah and do all of this for yourself, as long as you have strong faith in Allah and conviction of His Power.

How do I know the result of Istikhara

You mentioned that you admire the person’s religion and that you’re not put off by the external obstacles. In this case, you can continue to find solutions.

When you persist on the aforementioned cure, insha’Allah things will be facilitated and you will get clarity and guidance on how to continue.

If, after that, either you or the suitor felt turned off from one another or unwilling to continue finding solutions, then, in this case, you can let go.

And when you let go, remember: The Kingdom of Allah is Vast. Allah can easily bring you someone else who is even more right for you. Do not worry or think of restrictions. Allah has no restrictions. Rejoice in the unlimited Power of Allah.

So do not be too stressed, my dear, or too frustrated about this issue.

What you have is a test, it’s temporary and it will end.

“… Allah will bring about, after hardship, ease.” (Quran 65:7)

And Allah knows best.

I hope this helps.

Salam and please keep in touch.
