The Muslim community mourns and celebrates the extraordinary life of this remarkable man who devoted his life to understanding of Islam in the United States, Africa and the broader Middle East.
Dr Sulayman Nyang Impacted Many
Author of Over 11 Books and 70 Articles, Dr. Sulayman Nyang, has worked at Howard University in Washington, DC until last year when he retired from Howard as a professor and former chairman of the African Studies Department.
He joined the faculty of the Department at Howard, shortly after obtaining his PhD in Government in 1974 from University of Virginia.
He also had a long career including a stint as a diplomat in Saudi Arabia representing the Gambia. Originally from the Republic of the Gambia in West Africa, Dr Nyang’s career in academia, local, national and international service and activism spans more than 37 years.
