Why Should I Have a Need for God?

In a world where secularism has taken the place of God, it is no wonder why people have lost their appetite for a Creator.

Most western countries follow the Darwinist philosophy which states all things were created on their own without a Supreme intervention. It is no wonder that children growing up with such indoctrination see no use for a god they cannot see or scientifically prove His existence.

Spirituality, at its best, has been reduced to some forms of medication, relaxation, deep breathing and listening to some mind altering music. Drugs have also provided a short-lived high and ecstasy, taking the user to another world of pleasure and out of body experience, only to return them to the real world, plunged into darkness and misery and a life-time addiction.

Prior to the advent of high technologies and access to unlimited entertainment resources, the majority of world population did believe in God or a god they worshiped. But now even that seems not interesting enough when one’s time could be devoted to more fun and games.

God and Me? Why?

If you are reading this article, it may mean that you are curious about this matter. You may be one who needs proof that God does, in fact, exist before believing in Him, or even needing Him.

Although various religions have their own way of proving that God exists, they may add more confusion to the one searching when they also introduce multiple gods, godheads, lesser and higher gods along with a supreme god.

In Islam, the focus is only on one God, which Muslims call Allah. This is an Arabic word which is also used by Arab Christian and Jews to refer to God in the Old and New Testament.

A New Convert’s Testimony

I recently met a new Muslim sister who said that all the reasons given to her for the existence of God did not satisfy her until she read/heard the scientific proofs of God’s existence in the Quran. How could some of this information be available over fourteen hundred years ago? How could Muhammad, an illiterate man have known these?

Her sincere research and deeper reading about Islam, Muhammad and the Quran lead her to believe that there is only one God and that Muhammad was His messenger and Prophet. ‘This was my way to accepting Islam,” she said.

Scientific Proofs

There are numerous data available online to support proof of God’s existence through scientific means. Some of such links are as follows:

  • An excellent article written by Dr Zakir Naik.
  • The existence of God logically proven. This is a Christian view on the same topic.

It is interesting to note that the Christian method of proving God’s existence is based on biblical quotes as well as observation of modern science which proves God’s existence, while the Quran uses not only God’s own words about His existence but points to scientific facts that were unknown to mankind till recent centuries.

In other words, the Quran by itself is using 1400 year-old scientific facts as a proof of the Divine origin of this Holy Scripture. Thus we satisfy two things at once. God’s existence and the Quran’s divine origin both through this one Book.

In regards to scientific proof of God’s existence, Dr. Naik makes a great remark saying:

“Let me remind you that the Quran is not a book of Science, ‘S-C-I-E-N-C-E’ but a book of Signs ‘S-I-G-N-S’ i.e. a book of ayats. The Quran contains more than 6,000 ayahs, i.e. ‘signs’, out of which more than a thousand speak about Science. I am not trying to prove that the Quran is the word of God using scientific knowledge as a yardstick because any yardstick is supposed to be more superior than what is being checked or verified. For us Muslims the Quran is the Furqan i.e. criteria to judge right from wrong and the ultimate yardstick which is more superior to scientific knowledge.” (Proving God)

While Christians use excellent arguments against Evolution to prove Creation; they use biblical verses that indicate that God is the only Creator; and adamantly declare that there is only ONE GOD, they then argue that believing in 3 gods in one also means believing in ONE GOD. Or 1+1+1=1.

We will not address this topic at this time. Yet we would like to urge the reader to research various scriptures and their historical compilation to arrive to certainty of which book you will use as your guide to bring you back to your Creator. Which guidance you will use to build a personal relationship with Him?

It is only by knowing about Him, then understanding Him and have certainty that He does in fact exist and is the only Creator of the entire existence that you can truly know how much you need Him and how lost one is without a relationship with Him.

Once a person arrives at certainty, then next steps are much easier to follow.

Islam is a complete way of life. It leaves out guessing games. One has an answer and guidance for most issues of life. When one follows Divine guidance his/her energy is then focused to improve his life instead of hit and misses.

When we go to school or university, we know that we have to follow the curriculum given to us as our main course of study. We are free to do extra research to add to our current study. But we have peace of mind that the curriculum of this year will get us ready to go to next year topics and so on. At the end we hope to achieve our final goal of a profession or state of knowledge we were seeking to reach.

The fields of higher education studies are mostly chosen by attendees for a purpose. They have a goal in mind. What higher goal can we desire better than graduating from the divine school of life that gives us tools and shows us ways to Paradise?

Finally, let us complement our search for the truth by observing clear signs which lead us directly to the Master Creator!

{Soon We will show them our signs in the (farthest) regions (of the earth), and in their own souls, until it becomes manifest to them that this is the Truth. Is it not enough that thy Lord does witness all things?} (41:53)
