The Verse of the Throne
Ubayy ibn Ka’b said:
Allah’s Messenger said:
O Abu’ al-Mundhir, do you know the verse from the Book of Allah which, according to you, is the greatest?
I said:
“Allah and His Apostle know best.”
He again said:
Abu’l-Mundhir, do you know the verse from the Book of Allah which, according to you, is the greatest?
I said:
“Allah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal. (verse 2:255)”
Thereupon he struck me on my breast and said:
May knowledge be pleasant for you, O Abu’l-Mundhir! (Muslim)
It is recommended for a Muslim to read this verse every night. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) confirmed that whoever reads this verse before going to bed at night will be appointed an angel by Allah for protection and Satan will be unable to approach throughout the night’s sleep.
It is also strongly recommended to read this verse after offering each of the five daily obligatory prayers.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
Whoever recites The Verse of the Throne immediately after each prescribed prayer, there will be nothing standing between him and his entering Paradise except death. (Sahih Ibn Hibban)
The Opening (Al-Fatihah)
The Prophet said:
Allah has not revealed the likes of Umm Al-Kitab in the Tawrah, nor the Injil. It is the seven oft-repeated, and (Allah said): ‘It is divided between Myself and My slave, and My slave shall have what he asks for.’ (At-Tirmidhi)
He also said:
The Um (substance) of the Quran is the seven oft-repeated verses (Al- Mathaini) and is the Great Quran (i.e. Surat-al-Fatiha). (Al-Bukhari)
Last Verses of Chapter Al-Baqarah
The Prophet said:
If somebody recited the last two Verses of Surat Al-Baqarah at night, that will be sufficient for him. (Al-Bukhari)
Ibn ‘Abbas reported that while Gabriel was sitting with the Apostle he heard a creaking sound above him. He lifted his head and said:
This is a gate opened in heaven today which had never been opened before. Then when an angel descended through it, he said: This is an angel who came down to the earth who had never come down before. He greeted and said: Rejoice in two lights given to you which have not been given to any prophet before you: Fatihat al-Kitab and the concluding verses of Surah al-Baqarah. You will never recite a letter from them for which you will not be given (a reward). (Muslim)
Prophet Muhammad said:
Recite the Quran, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite It. Recite the two bright ones, al-Baqarah and Surah Al ‘Imran, for on the Day of Resurrection they will come as two clouds or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recite them. Recite Surah al-Baqarah, for to take recourse to it is a blessing and to give it up is a cause of grief, and the magicians cannot confront it. (Mu’awiya said: It has been conveyed to me that here Batala means magicians.) (Muslim)
First 10 Verses of Chapter Al-Kahf
If anyone learns by heart the first ten verses of the Surah al-Kahf, he will be protected from the Dajjal. (Muslim)
Chapter Al-Mulk
The Prophet said:
Indeed there is a Surah in the Quran of thirty Ayat, which intercedes for a man until he is forgiven. It is [Surah] Tabarak Alladhi Biyadihil-Mulk. (At-Tirmidhi)
The Prophet said:
Idha Zulzilat is equal to half of the Quran, Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad is equal to a third of the Quran, and Qul Ya Ayyuhal-Kafirun is equal to a fourth of the Quran. (At-Tirmidhi)
Chapters Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas
The Prophet used to seek protection against the evil of jinn and the evil eyes till Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas were revealed. After they were revealed, he took to them for seeking Allah’s protection and left everything besides them. (At-Tirmidhi)
The Prophet said:
There have been sent down to me verses the like of which had never been seen before. They are the Mu’awwadhatain. (Muslim)
