Ramadan 2022: Longest & Shortest Fasting Hours

As the majority of Muslims observe the first day of Ramadan on Saturday, April 2, many countries are set to fast with shorter hours than others according to their locations.

Through out different countries, millions of Muslims will have to fast from 20 hours to just 11 hours.

For example, Muslims living in the city of Reykjavik, Iceland, will have the longest fasting record this year at 16 hours 50 minutes fasting time, The Islamic Information blog reported.

On the other hand, countries in the southern hemisphere will have shorter fasting periods, for example, Muslims in New Zealand, Argentina, and South Africa will fast with an average time span of only 11 hours to 12 hours.

Annually, Hijri years arrive 11 days earlier in respect to the solar Gregorian calendar. This yearly shift makes the holy 9th Hijri month of Ramadan to move through the seasons in a 33-year cycle.
