As millions of Muslims commenced today (Saturday) the Ramadan fasting, world leaders have started sharing warm messages to welcome the holy month.
US, President Joe Biden and his first lady sent their “best wishes to Muslim communities here in the United States and around the world on the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan.”
“For so many around the globe, including fellow Americans all across the country, this sacred month is a time for reflection and spiritual growth,” a statement by the White House read.
“Communities come together to practice forgiveness and resilience, to show compassion and generosity of spirit to those in need, of giving, and to celebrate the many blessings of life with loved ones.”

Ramadan is the holiest month in Islamic calendar. It starts this year on Saturday, April 2.
Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the United States House of Representatives since 2019, said in a statement: “At sundown today, Muslim communities in the U.S. and around the world welcomed the Holy Month of #Ramadan and a season of self-reflection, renewal, and gratitude. Ramadan Mubarak to all who celebrate. May this month bring you peace and blessings.”
Other Leaders
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has also welcomed the holy month of Ramadan with a special message to Muslims in his country and around the world.
“To Muslim Canadians across the country: As you mark the start of Ramadan, and as you fast, pray, and reflect with your loved ones, I want to wish you a blessed and peaceful month. Ramadan Mubarak!”
The British Prime Minister also shared a message to Muslims.
“Ramadan Mubarak to all the British Muslims and Muslims around the world preparing for Islam’s holiest month of the year,” Boris Johnson wrote on Twitter.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged people to work towards the safety, dignity, and prosperity of all women and men in this holy month of Ramadan.
“I send my warmest wishes as millions of Muslims around the world begin the holy month of Ramadan,” he wrote on a statement on the UN website.
“This is a period of compassion and empathy… a time for reflection and learning… an opportunity to come together and uplift each other.”
