Muslim Crowdfunding Platform Raises More Than $700K On Giving Tuesday

On a day when charities, businesses, and individuals come together to celebrate giving, LaunchGood, a global Muslim crowdfunding platform, encouraged more than $755,000 in donations in a single day.

“Thank you and congratulations! With your help we raised over $700K+ in just one day,” the platform wrote.

LaunchGood held a giveaway of $100K in prizes on Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2019. All live campaigns on www.launchgood.com were eligible to win prize money towards their causes.

According to the platform website, the ‘Share the Prophet SAW’ campaign by the CelebrateMercy charity was the first winner, receiving $20,000. The campaign, launched to grow the charity’s programs about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), raised $101,981.

In second place was Awtad Projects. The charity is based on a group of volunteers from different nationalities who decided to dedicate their time and efforts to make a difference in the lives of poor and needy people in disadvantaged communities, especially in Africa. The campaign won $10,000 from LaunchGood after its supporters raised $56,826.

The third prize of $5,000, went to Al-Maqasid, a Pennsylvania charity which works to renovate a volunteer-run center into a full-fledged educational institution. The charity raised $53,986 in a single day.

Another category of prizes was offered to campaigns with the biggest number of supporters. The first three winners were ‘Pilgrim #GivingTuesday’, ‘Share the Prophet’, and ‘HRF Rohingya Orphanage’.

Started in October of 2013, LaunchGood has grown to facilitate more than 9,105 campaigns in more than 130 countries. To date, $96,408,884 has been funded.

In the days after the March 15, 2019 mosque shootings in New Zealand, LaunchGood helped raise more than $2.5 million NZD to help the families of the deceased and the surviving victims.

In October of 2018, a campaign on LaunchGood was created to benefit victims and families affected by a synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh. It raised more than $150,000 in 48 hours.

Giving Tuesday, often stylized as #GivingTuesday for the purposes of hashtag activism, refers to the Tuesday after US Thanksgiving in the United States. It is a movement to create an international day of charitable giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season.
