Meet Hajj Youngest Volunteer: Always Proud of Serving Pilgrims

Serving Allah’s guests during Hajj is a highly rewardable act Mariam Mahdar has been anticipating.

Mahdar, believed to be the youngest volunteer in 2023 Hajj, says she is proud of serving the faithful.

“With the approach of Hajj season, I become enthusiastic and eager to serve the guests of the Almighty,” she said in a video posted on the website of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Gulf News reported.

“I’m proud of serving the pilgrims as much as I’m proud of others who serve them such as security men, doctors and engineers,” she added.

The young volunteer, whose age was not revealed in the video, said she feels very sad after the end of Hajj season because she has to wait for long for pilgrims’ return.

She is currently learning English at school to be able to better communicate with non-Arabic-speaking pilgrims.

“When I offer water and meals to the pilgrims, they wish me well. What I’m doing is a great blessing that many people wish to do,” added Mariam.

Several Saudis annually volunteer to offer various services and care to the pilgrims, commonly referred to as “guests of the Almighty”.

For example, Saudi man Ayed Al Jarhadi has been using his private car to transport Hajj pilgrims for free for 30 years from a border town to the holy city of Makkah.

Hajj is an important event in the Islamic calendar as millions of Muslims gather every year in Saudi Arabia city of Makkah to perform the life-time journey.

Every able-bodied adult Muslim who can financially afford the trip must perform Hajj at least once in a lifetime.
