The Atlas Lionesses have clinched a spot in the knockout stage of the World Cup in their first participation in the international tournament.
The Moroccan team achieved the milestone after their historic performance during the last group-stage match, defeating Colombia 1-0.
The miraculous scenario completed after Germany’s match vs South Korea ended in unexpected 1-1 draw.

The lineup included Nouhaila Benzina, who made history as the first woman to appear with hijab in the Women’s World Cup.
This is the first time that Atlas Lionesses reach the Women’s World Cup in the country’s history. With qualification secured, Morocco will now face France in the round of 16.
Two other African countries, namely Nigeria and South Africa, have also qualified to round 16.
The first game saw them concede a heavy 6-0 loss to Germany. It is also the first time that Germany have ever failed to reach the knockout stages at the Women’s World Cup.
