Dr. Samina Sohail is a tour guide, community organizer, family physician, speaker, writer, mother and wife. She is also a board member of the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati.
In this video, as she talks about her immigrant family’s success story, she also reflects on what the election of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris means to American Muslims.
“Vice President-elect Harris symbolizes the intersection of race, immigration, social justice and the boundless opportunities we can realize when justice and discriminatory policies are overcome,” she wrote in an opinion article published by The Enquirer.
“For the first time, I understood what it must have felt like for African Americans when Barack Obama took the stage in 2008. It’s the same pride women, especially women of color, should feel today.”
This month, Sen. Kamala Harris of California was elected as the next vice president of the United States.
Apart from being the United States’ first female vice president, Harris will also be the first Asian-American and the first African-American vice president.
