In an effort to build intercultural relationships, a Springfield community group will hold an event this month that will focus on Muslims, highlighting their efforts to make Ohio a better place for all.

“Connecting through the Distance: Practicing Faith, Hope and Love in Pandemic Times, Muslim Connections” will be presented at 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, March 11 on Zoom, Springfield News-Sun reported.

Samina Ahmed will lead the discussion hosted by Global Education and Peace Network.

Ahmed is a member of the Miami Valley Islamic Association and Masjid Al-Madina Mosque in Springfield.

During the event, Ahmed will discuss the Muslim community efforts to improve the Springfield community.

The efforts include volunteering at various events and collaborating with area churches to donate items to the Springfield Soup Kitchen, attending services of other faiths as a show of support and sharing their culture during an annual statewide Islamic day event.

Ahmed will also speak on how the Muslim community is addressing the COVID-19 pandemic and racism.

Since 2001, the Global Education and Peace Network has provided a forum for intercultural understanding. 

The Global Education Series provides an opportunity for the community to be exposed to other ethnic groups, cultures and religions as a way of increasing understanding and therefore, respect for those who are different from us.
