The Toronto Muslim community is mourning the loss of Irfan Haseeb Alli, a respected leader whose decades of faith-driven service, humility, and vision left an enduring mark on the city’s Islamic life. His passing has deeply moved those who knew him as a mentor, organizer, and friend.
Alli, remembered for his integrity and compassion, dedicated his life to strengthening Muslim institutions and fostering unity, Iqra.ca reported.
He served in key leadership roles at the Islamic Foundation of Toronto (IFT), where he chaired several committees and helped guide the organization through pivotal years in the 1980s and 1990s. Colleagues describe him as a principled and steady hand during times of change.

“He was kind, ethical, and family-oriented — a man devoted to his faith and community,” said community leader Muneeb Nasir, who worked closely with him for over four decades.
“His moral clarity during difficult times reminded me why I admired him so deeply.”
Alli’s community involvement began in the late 1970s when he taught at the Jami Mosque’s Islamic summer school.
From there, he helped organize youth study circles, Islamic camps, and educational programs across the city — efforts that inspired and empowered hundreds of young Muslims.
Serving Toronto Muslims
His work with Jami Mosque, IFT, and other local centers helped nurture a generation of leaders who continue to serve Toronto’s growing Muslim community.
A passionate writer and motivational speaker, Alli also wrote several books and gave talks that blended faith and life experience.
He is survived by his wife, Rukhsana Khan — an award-winning author of The Big Red Lollipop and Roses in My Carpet — their son, three daughters, and several grandchildren.
The Janazah (funeral) prayer for Br. Irfan was held yesterday, Saturday, November 1, at the Islamic Society of Markham Masjid, where hundreds of mourners gathered to pay their final respects.
Community members across Toronto describe his passing as the loss of a man whose life was defined by faith, service, and sincerity.
“Irfan Alli’s life was a gift to the Toronto Muslim community — his faith, humility, and service helped build this community,” Nasir said.
“We stand on his shoulders, thankful for the legacy he left us.”
May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him the highest ranks in Jannah.
