WASHINGTON – A new video featuring the sad, beautiful, and inspiring words of Muslim parents speaking open-letter style, to their children has been released by a digital media group in the US, helping Muslim parents to address challenges facing their kids.
Jubilee Project, a digital media group producing short films, PSAs and documentaries to inspire change, made the video to create awareness and encourage understanding.
It says that it “invited Muslim parents to share a message to their children about their racial and religious identity, and how to respond to prejudice and Islamophobia they may experience.”
Some of the messages the parents shared with their children are heartbreaking.
“So yeah, there are going to be times when you are going to be called a terrorist,” a parent said.
Others were hopeful, “I was always afraid to share my identity, but I don’t want you to be afraid of that.”
The video is part of a “Dear Child” series seeking to remind viewers of their shared humanity.
The other video in the series is When Black Parents Have To Give “The Talk” made to “inspire understanding and empathy from those who have never needed to have such a talk.”
