Milwaukee is hosting a food truck festival next Friday to cater to the Muslim community celebrating the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
The festival, held for the first time in the parking lot of the Islamic Society of Milwaukee, will be open to the entire community regardless of faith.
“I think we’re ready to expand and venture into new things,” said festival organizer Bushra Zaibak, TMJ reported.

Ramadan is the holiest month in Islamic calendar when Muslims fast from dawn to sunset.
Muslims dedicate their time during the holy month to become closer to Allah through prayer, self-restraint and good deeds.
Zaibak, who spearheaded Milwaukee’s first halal restaurant week last year, said the festival will start at 10:30 pm Friday and will go into the early morning hours, accommodating those fasting for Ramadan.
Halal Food
Visitors attending the event will have a chance to try diverse halal meals from different food trucks.
“Ramadan is essentially a month of spirituality, spiritual growth, and character development,” said Zaibak.
“During daylight hours we’re not going to be eating or drinking so after that folks will break their fast right at sunset.”
Edwin Curtis, owner of Jmakin Jamaican food truck taking part in the festival, said these events are important to bring people together to share food and culture.
“It’s good to experience other food from other countries and other walks of life. It’s very important,” said Curtis.
Zaibak agreed, saying, “Hosting this type of event for not just the Muslim community but the community at large is just a great opportunity for everyone to get together, meet each other, and try new things.”
Milwaukee’s food festival isn’t the only in the US to mark Ramadan.
Earlier this year, the city of Dearborn offered a special area for Ramadan food trucks to help provide food to Muslims observing the fasting month and the community at large.
