A local Muslim council in Michigan is planning a free drive-thru food pickup event in Burton this weekend to help struggling families during pandemic.

The event, planned on Saturday, is organized by the Michigan Muslim Community Council, in coordination with Martus Luna Food Pantry and Grand Blanc United Methodist Church, ABC 12 reported.

The needy families will be able to pick up fresh groceries and food boxes.

The Michigan Muslim Community Council is a Royal Oak-based organization that focuses on coordinating different parts of the community to make a positive difference locally.

Each year, the MMCC rallies hundreds of volunteers, especially during Ramadan, to collect food and household essentials and health-care packages, which are donated to food banks and homeless shelters.

Saturday’s planned event is not the first for the Muslim group in Michigan.

Over the last few weeks, the MMCC has distributed about 190000 boxes of fresh fruit and more than 30000 lbs of meat across 5 counties & 10 cities.

These efforts were in partnership with over a dozen organizations including: Islamic Relief, Mercy USA, USDA, and others.

Islam encourages Muslims to treat their neighbors in a gentle way that reflects its true and genuine spirit, as exemplified in its tolerant aspect especially with people of other faiths.

It makes no difference whether the neighbors are Muslim or non-Muslim.
