CAIRO – A new video by anti-Islamophobia advocacy group has encouraged people to report any instants of hate crimes they encounter, educating the broader community about abuse and harassment Muslims encounter on a daily basis.
“Anti-Muslim Hate crime is increasing in the UK. Islamophobia is heavily under-reported. If it happens to you or someone you know, report it to the police. Nobody should suffer in silence,” UK’s MEND (Muslim Engagement and Development) said in a post on YouTube.
The video, published last February 11, warns against increasing anti-Muslim hate crimes.
Titled, “Islamophobia – Nobody should suffer in silence”, the video shows Muslims attacks that have become familiar in many countries in recent years.
While the video’s intended audience is British, it has the potential to do a lot of good outside the UK.
In Australia for example, groups like Islamophobia Register Australia are working tirelessly to alert the public to the frightening levels of abuse Muslims frequently face.
The group encourages working with Muslim and non Muslim organizations “to ensure Islamophobia is regarded as socially unacceptable as anti-Semitism and other forms of racism and xenophobia.”
MEND identifies itself as a not for profit company working towards enhancing the active engagement of British Muslim communities in our national life, particularly in the fields of politics and the media.
