Nelson Community Mosque, located on Bradshaw Street in East Lancashire, has been recognized for its dedication to empowering women, winning the Best Women’s Service award at the British Beacon Mosque Awards 2024.

The annual awards celebrate excellence across UK mosques, madrassahs, Imams, Alimahs, and volunteers in 11 categories, with winners selected by independent judges from over 60,000 online votes, Lancashire Telegraph reported.

A Focus on Women’s Needs

The mosque was commended for its wide range of services tailored specifically to women, including educational workshops, health awareness sessions, counseling support, and spiritual development opportunities.

One of its key offerings is structured Qur’an and Fiqh classes, which have drawn more than 300 women, helping them build confidence in practicing and sharing their faith.

Social initiatives such as Chat and Chai gatherings provide a space for women to connect, share experiences, and foster friendships.

The mosque also runs the Teens of Faith program, which helps teenage girls develop emotional resilience and social skills, giving them a platform to express themselves.

Beyond spiritual and social development, Nelson Community Mosque has made a significant impact through community services. Its food bank initiative has supported over 400 women in recent months, including 225 single mothers.

Family-focused programs, such as parenting workshops, marriage counseling, and a family well-being service, have provided women with tools to build healthy relationships at home.
