- I’ve been running around 10K EVERY SINGLE DAY before Iftar…
Running for long kilometers could be a real challenge to many people. For those fasting Ramadan, running while abstaining from food and water is a double challenge that needs strong spirit and dedication.
Haroon Mota is pushing himself to the limit by planning to run 260km over the course of the holy month to raise money for Penny Appeal’s Emergency Response program.

The target, $25,000, will go directly towards supporting those at risk of contracting the virus, Asian Image reported.
Haroon originally planned to run four world major marathons in five weeks. He had to postpone his plans after the cancellation of the Berlin Marathon.
Running while Fasting
To fulfill this challenge, Haroon needs to run 8.7km per day to ensure he is able to meet his 260k target by the end of the month.
“Running in Ramadan is such a challenge, because you’re fasting for 16 hours every day, from dawn until sunset. I feel very thirsty when I run, but I keep in mind the millions of people who do not have access to clean water. It motivates me to keep pushing myself,” Haroon said.
“I think of the all of the people who have had to flee their homes. While, I choose to run, they have no choice. I am running in solidarity with the millions of innocent people who are forced to flee their homes and rebuild their lives, every single day.”
So far, Mota’s Justgiving page has raised £19,023.
The donations will help “protect and save thousands of families from the devastating effects of natural disasters and conflict. War, famine, disease, poverty & climate change have immobilized the Rohingya & Uyghur refugees, internally displaced people in Yemen, Syria, Gaza, and also Mozambique and Malawi after Cyclone Idai,” his Justgiving page read.
“Penny Appeal need your support to be able to deploy life-saving medical aid, food, clothing, sanitation and shelter to those who’ve been left incredibly vulnerable.
