Every year, Dr. Ahmed Hankir, an NHS mental health doctor, volunteers to work on Christmas holidays to give his Christian colleagues a chance to enjoy the holiday with their families.
The Muslim doctor has been taking up the shifts for the past 12 years.
“I’m a mental health doctor. For the last 12 years, I’ve swapped shifts so colleagues can celebrate the festive period with their loved ones,” said Ahmed on Twitter on December 24.
“This year I’m working Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day in Emergency Psychiatry.”

Hankir is not the only non-Christian doctor who volunteered to work during the holiday.
Muslims have been volunteering for years to take the job duties of Christian workers.
The Muslim doctor’s move was widely praised on social media.
That is the most positive, caring, loving healthcare gesture you can do for your colleagues and your patients in need during the holidays.

Christmas is the main festival on the Christian calendar. Its celebrations reach its peak at 12:00 PM on December 24 of every year.
Muslims believe in Jesus as one of the great Prophets of God and that he was born miraculously, conceived with no father, to his mother, Mary, but not that he was son of God.
