The famous Dutch actor Donnie Roelvink embraced the Islamic faith on Friday, April 19, by reciting Shahadah (testimony of faith)

Known as an influencer, public figure, and model, Donny was seen in a viral video on Instagram taking the shahadah inside a mosque.

“I don’t think many people have noticed that I had a special day yesterday,” Roelvink said in his video message on Instagram, Telegraaf reported.

“Images were taken of this, posted online and widely reported in the media. That was to be expected when I do that in the presence of a large group of people.”

The 26-year-old reality star indicated that he did not mind publishing the video, adding that he didn’t do it himself.

Finding Islam

In 2022, Donny was injured while shooting a fitness video with friends. He was run over by a Hummer. He ended up in hospital with five broken ribs and a collapsed lung. Then, he had to recover for weeks.

This same year, he was told he has testicle cancer. Because of those two incidents, he started to deepen his faith, finding Islam at last.

Over the past weeks, Donny has been visiting the mosque, observed Ramadan, and has been diving deep into the Quran for a while.

Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world, with the number of Muslims set to grow at more than twice the rate of the overall world population between 2015 and 2060 according to research by the Pew Research Center.

Last year, Rodtang Jitmuangnon, the reigning ONE Championship flyweight Muay Thai champion, converted to Islam.

German footballer Robert Bauer has converted to Islam, announcing the decision on his official Instagram account.
