A British Muslim Zakat foundation has received more than £11K from the local Muslim community in Cumbria country, North West England, to help those in need during the time of the pandemic.
“Zakat is now a lifeline for UK Muslims as many struggle to gain the right monetary support elsewhere,” Mahboob Hussain, head of marketing communications at National Zakat Foundation, The Mail reported.
“The generosity of Muslims in the past 12 months has exceeded our expectations and it’s incredible to see how Zakat is transforming lives and making a difference.”

Receiving £11,452 from the Muslim community, the charity, which collects and distributes Zakat within the UK, has so far helped almost 70 Muslims in the Cumbria area within the past 12 months.
National Zakat Foundation (NZF) is the only platform that receives your Zakat and distributes it to thousands of Muslims in need across the UK.
Established in 2011, NZF has been committed to building a closer, thriving Muslim community where the transformative power of Zakat is maximized.

Islam encourages Muslims to treat their neighbors in a gentle way that reflects the true and genuine spirit of Islam as exemplified in its tolerant aspect especially with people of other faiths.
Muslims pay the 2.5 percent Zakat rate on wealth above a threshold, usually equivalent to 600g of silver, worth about £250.
In 2018, Iqbal Nasim, chief executive of the National Zakat Foundation, said British Muslims gave up to £300 million in Zakat each year.
