‘We Had Allah With Us’: England’s Cricket Team Captain after Winning World Cup

In an extraordinary night in which the England’s cricket team won the world cup, the team captain Eoin Morgan said “Allah” was with them, praising the team’s diverse background, The Independent reported.

“We had Allah with us as well. I spoke to Adil Rashid, he said Allah was definitely with us. I said we had the rub of the green,” Morgan said answering a reporter who asked “…Do you think the luck of an Irishman got England over the line?”

“That actually epitomizes our team. We’re from quite diverse backgrounds and cultures and guys grow up in different countries. To actually find humor in the situation we were in at times was pretty cool.”

England’s men emerged Cricket World Cup winners for the first time on Sunday, July 14.

Morgan said: “It’s been an absolutely incredible journey to everybody around the country and around the world who has followed us and supported us, thank you so much. It’s been phenomenal.

“Right from the very beginning of the tournament, all the way through, regardless of our performance, people believed because we believed and I’m very thankful for that and everybody is as well.”

The English team is a diverse mixture of players. The Captain, Morgan himself, was born in Dublin, Ireland.

Spinners Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali are both of Muslim Pakistani origin, though born in England. Pacer Jofra Archer who bowled the final over was born in Barbados. Man of the Match Ben Stokes was born in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Allah is a special Arabic word. It indicates the only entity in existence Who truly possesses the qualities of divinity and lordship.

“Allah” is the proper name of the only One worthy of worship, the One whom all creation praises and glorifies. Everything on land or sea – indeed everything in the seven heavens and the seven earths – glorifies Him. The day and night praise Him.

Morgan’s video has gone viral on social media, with many praising his stance on diversity.
