JEDDAH – A Syrian Mu’adhin has passed away while waiting to call the adhan for Fajr prayer at a Jeddah mosque.
Abdul Haq al Halabi, 60, was sitting reciting the Qur’an and passed away with just minutes left before the time of Adhan, Saudi newspapaer Sabq reported on Thursday, July 20.
Originally from Syria, he had been living in Saudi Arabia for 40 years. The late Mu’adhin was known for his religious zeal and dedication, and was often seen reciting the Qur’an.
The deceased was praised for his efforts in helping pilgrims during his life. His life culminated with dedicating the last three years in his life with serving the mosque and worshippers, as well as calling for the adhan.
In the Sunnah there are reports that indicate that the muezzin has a status the like of which no one else will have.
It was narrated that Mu’aawiyah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The muezzins will have the longest necks of the people on the Day of Resurrection.” Narrated by Muslim, 387.
