PARMA, Ohio – Nearly 1000 local Muslims gathered Friday, May 18, at the Islamic Center of Cleveland to attend and celebrate the first Jumu`ah prayer in the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is the holiest month in Islamic calendar. It started last Wednesday in North America, Cleveland.com reported.
In Ramadan, adult Muslims, save the sick and those traveling, abstain from food, drink, smoking and sex between dawn and sunset.
Muslims dedicate their time during the holy month to be closer to Allah through prayers, self-restraint, and good deeds.
