The Prophet (pbuh) lost his mother when he was just 6 years old. When he was returning from Madinah to Makkah, he asked his whole army to stop and he went to stand by a grave.
There, he wept so deeply that some of the Sahaba (RA) could not help but weep with him.
When he was asked what upset him so much, he replied that this was the grave of his mother (RA) and he missed her.
Families are not perfect but we should be grateful. Consider those who lost a parent when they were young and be grateful.
