Q:
Assalamu Alykum Worahmatullahi Wobarakatuhu. During this lockdown, many people who have wealth are helping other who haven’t money and food to help thier lives. I thought it may be haram for muslim to recieve from christians or other religion followers the donation.
So, can we recieve other religion’s charity or not?
A:
Wa alaykum assalamu wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Mercy-Giving.
All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad.
It is permissible to accept gifts and donations from non-Muslims as long as this involves no subordination, humiliation or submission to them as a consequence. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted gifts sent to him by al-Muqawqis (ruler of Egypt) and the Byzantine Caesar of his time and both were non-Muslims.
Allah knows best.
