Thank you for your good question.

At all times, we should maintain true love for Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) by living and reviving his Sunnah. So, on the Prophet’s birthday occasion, let’s take care of the following:

1- Educating ourselves and our families, friends, neighbors, and colleagues about Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) and his message for humanity.

2- Living and reviving the Sunnah by means of adhering to the Prophet’s guidance in all aspects of our life.

3- Carrying out our duties towards the Prophet (peace be on him), which are-

a) To believe in Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him),

b) To take him as an example,

c) To obey him,

d) To send blessings on him, and

e) To love him more than anything else, even one’s self.

It goes without saying that we should carry out the above-mentioned duties throughout all months of the year, not only in a single month, week, or day.

On the Prophet’s birthday occasion, and at all times of course, we should avoid disobeying Allah or/and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him). We should not divide our communities. We shouldn’t violate the ethics and values of Islam by any means.

May Allah accept your and our good deeds, ameen.

Allah Almighty knows best.

Thank you for your good question.

Respected sisters contribute greatly to the development of the Muslim communities. They should always be engaged and play leading roles within our Masjids and Islamic centers as it was the case at the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) and his Companions.

Sisters at Masjids, homes, schools, work-places, etc., play significant roles to raise awareness about Muslim values by translating Islamic noble manners into practice.

On the occasion of the Prophet’s birthday, sisters may do awareness campaigns to introduce Islamic morals and values to their friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc.

At masjids, Sisters’ Halaqas may study the seerah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) and the mothers of the believers and the female companions (may Allah be pleased with them all).

Moreover, they may hold programs at homes for the family members to implant love of the Prophet (peace be on him) in the hearts of the kids.

May Allah accept your and our good deeds, ameen.

Allah Almighty knows best.

Young Muslims, brothers and sisters, are the backbone of our communities. Islamic centers should empower and support the youth, and give them leading roles in the masjids and Islamic centers.

On the occasion of the Prophet’s birthdays, Youth Halaqas and programs in Islamic centers may focus on activities that raise awareness about Prophet’s Muhammad (peace be on him) and his noble morals. They may study the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them all).

Young Muslim may do some programs to introduce Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) to people from all communities by holding some programs such Masjids’ Open Doors to welcome neighbors, friends, and faith and non-faith communities to the Masjids and Islamic Centers to know more about Islamic values and Muslims’ cultures.

Imams may seize the occasion of the Prophet’s birthday to educate the young Muslims about Islam and Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him).

May Allah accept your and our good deeds, ameen.

Allah Almighty knows best.

I do believe that Muslims in North America, Europe, and other Western countries should seize the occasions of Islamic events such as Ramadan, `Eids, and the Prophet’s birthday to raise awareness about Islam, Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him), and Islamic noble values and morals.

On the occasion of the Prophet’s birthday, Islamic centers in the West may hold programs to introduce the Prophet’s morals and manners to the Muslim and other communities.

Imams and scholars may focus on studying and teaching the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him). Special programs to raise awareness about Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) may be held too.

Families should do their best to raise their kids on loving Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) and following his Sunnah. On the Prophet’s birthday occasion, parents may do some programs at home to introduce Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) to their kids through interesting means.

Muslim communities in the West should seize these occasions to come closer and work together for the public benefit of their communities and societies at large.

Finally, diverse ways of showing and celebrating love of Prophet Muhammad should never divide Muslim communities; this rather should bring them closer.

Imams and scholars should always educate their communities and lead them to truly love the Prophet (peace be on him) and live the Sunnah.

May Allah accept your and our good deeds, ameen.

Allah Almighty knows best.

Is it OK to celebrate the Prophet’s birthday?

Thank you for your good question.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) was born on Monday, the twelfth of Rabi` Al-Awal in the year of Al-Fil (the Elephant), 571 AC. Muslims in different parts of the world, when the month of Rabi` Al-Awal arrives, remember this great occasion.

Muslim communities all over the world show their love to prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) in diverse ways. Showing love to prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) should never be a reason to divide our communities; it rather should bring us all closer though we might disagree or agree with some ways that  some people adopt in showing their love to prophet Muhammad (peace be on him).

In fact, I see that some people go into extreme by describing the mere remembrance of the occasion of the Prophet’s birthday as bid`ah (forbidden innovation in religion).

It is OK to commemorate the Prophet’s birthday, without inventing new rituals in religion, and seize the occasion to revive and live the Prophet’s Sunnah.

It is noteworthy that the Prophet (peace be on him) commemorated his birthday when he replied a man who asked him about fasting on Mondays, saying, “On that day I was born and on that day Revelation descended upon me.” (Muslim and Ahmad)

Moreover, we have precedents in the life of the Prophet (peace be on him), as well in the life of his pious predecessors, to commemorate things or events associated with the Prophet (peace be on him). For example, the Companions commemorated the event of the Prophet’s Hijrah and made it the start-date in the Islamic calendar.

Birthdays celebrations, generally speaking, fall under the category of customs that are permissible in principle provided that there is nothing haram (unlawful) is associated with it. Therefore, it is OK for people to celebrate their kids’ birthdays through permissible means.

On the occasion of the Prophet’s birthday, we should raise awareness about his morals and values, introduce him to our kids, families and communities, revive and live his Sunnah, and translate his noble teachings into practice.

May Allah accept your and our good deeds, ameen.
