In answering your question, I cannot do any better than citing here one of my earlier answers:
“There is nothing in Islam to forbid drawing in itself–unless you are drawing images for worship. Since drawing is a most powerful medium of communication these days, it can be used either for promoting truth or promoting vices. No doubt, it is haraam to draw images for worship. If there is no such fear, then drawing as a form of art and as a medium of communication cannot be considered as haraam. It is comparable to poetry, which was condemned by the Qur’an–unless one practises it to promote the cause of truth, justice and piety.
This, in a nutshell, is the preferred view of scholars on this issue. Mind you historically Muslims have been practicing this form of art for centuries, and they have left us a rich legacy of Islamic art. Therefore, I advise you to study the Muslim art and architecture. With your talent, I hope, insha Allah you can add to this proud tradition. I pray to Allah to inspire you to excel in your art work, while shunning that which is clearly forbidden.”
