Meaning of the hadith about good deeds becoming void because of missing Asr Salah

Wa alaykum assalam warahmatullah wabarakatuh

In the Name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Mercy-Giving

All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad.

This hadith bears serious threat for those who neglect prayers, in general, and `Asr Prayer, in particular. The hadith was thus quoted in support of the juristic view that regards those who neglect prayers altogether as disbelievers, which is a controversial issue.

However, even scholars who do not go with this point of view, still consider the hadith as a great warning against neglecting prayers and particularly `Asr Prayer.

In this course, one attempt interprets the hadith to mean that only the deeds of this day in which one neglects `Asr Prayer will be abolished.

Another attempt interprets the hadith to mean that this `Asr payer will not be accepted even if he prays it later.

According to a third point of view, if one habitually neglects `Asr Prayer and never prays it, all his good deeds will be abolished; but if this happens in a particular day, only the deeds of this day will be abolished.

Almighty Allah knows best.
