assalaamualakum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. I'm a Muslim, therefore I believe there is good & peace in everything in Islam but I'm confused about the sharia law. I was going to look it up, & I even started to but a lot of the websites I used portrayed it in a very unlawful &unislamic way but I know there is good to it. Could you go over every Islamic sharia law in depth? because I'm sure there is beauty I just can't find.

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

Shariah is three branches: Faith, practice and law

Law is the rules and regulations that dictate our life according to that which pleases God. So, eating pork, drinking wine, stealing, practicing magic and many other examples are all prohibited under the law of Sharia.

Law of Shariah is meant to bring benefit and prevent harm. It is to protect our Deen, self, mind, honor and wealth.

The law of Shariah was mentioned mainly in the Quran in the general rules, then the Sunnah of the prophet (peace be upon him) gave real examples of implementation and up till now scholars can relate in Qiyas or analysis new implantations of the original meanings and purposes of the Shariah.

For ladies, When we work with men in our field of work ,can we be pleasant with them and if there is a joke ,can't we laugh?

Respect and honor should be your guideline in this. That which you do not allow for your wife to happen with other men, do not allow yourself to practice it with other women.

The Quran advised also women to watch for the tone of their voice not to be close to intimacy for people who have ill hearts morally will use it in a bad way.

So yes, being pleasant is a fine term between genders or if someone mentioned something funny yes people can laugh even being of other gender. But always put your heart and intention at check not to be loose and intimate in a way that would be not proper.

If the women in islam wants to work and the husband at first doesn't allow, can they discuss nicely and come to a decision?

Yes, of course that is the way it should be. I cannot imagine a relationship based on orders from husband but would rather hope to see it as an understanding based on love and respect and all that happens in proper communication.

Love means sacrifices. If you love him and you feel this matter is sensitive for him you will find a place in your heart to stay home taking care of family and kids. Maybe later in time he might change his mind and have no issues for you to work.

Assalamwalikum My husband and I were dating from past 7 years till we got married last December. It's been 5 months of our marriage. I am not happy because of him and his mother. My mother in law has created so much problem between us that now both have lost the love and respect between each other. He knows his mother is wrong but he'll keep telling me to try to fix things with her but I can't. She treats me so bad like taunts me and makes big issue for small mistakes I do. Tells my husband and fills his ears. There's no peace at home.my father in law is neutral and told my husband yo find another house and stay. But my husband has been spoon fed and pampered and dsnt want to leave his parents.he is proper mommy's boy. Very immatured. But today he told me if I don't make things fine between his mum n me den he'll divorce me. That's when it hit me he'll always be a son and never a husband. In 5 months he never took my side. And he has no regret to divorce me cz of my in laws . What should I do. I fought with my parents to marry him because they knew how his mother is and they told this will happen but I thought my husband would support me. My parents will hate me if my husband divorces me. Should I even cry if this relationship doesn't work out because my husband doesn't care about me if he told this. In fact he told it in a very nice manner and not even in anger. Please help

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In short, you have two options it seems since he is not willing to change. No doubt you have the right for a house with him on your own, I am not sure if a local Imam can talk to him about your rights including a separate residence that might ease the tension with his mom.

Back to the two options; either be ready for divorce or take it responsibly if it happens. Life does not end by divorce even if it hurts and it causes a real hardship but we must always pull out and seek positively new ways to live honorable.

Or, try to change things on your side to accommodate the status you are in now. You dated him for 7 years you said, you knew him and his mom, your parents knew it too so I would assume since you knew you might be able to cope.

My advice is the second option of course, try to rise over the issues that bother you and try to convince your husband to move in the near future to a place on your own. I pray and hope things will work for both of you insha’ Allah.

Asalaamu alaikum Pls, as a Muslim is it good to celebrate mother's day?

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

I do not see an issue celebrating that day. It is a social event not a religious one. It will become haram if things done in it were haram like drinking wine, spending money extravagantly etc. But if someone bought his mom a gift or took her out for dinner or invited family at home to be with her it should be fine.

Can I name my son Muhammad or Musa? And what is the meaning of the name of Musa?

Yes, indeed you can. The prophet (peace be upon him) told us directly to name our kids after him. He (peace be upon him) said: “name after my name.” (Al-Bukhari)

The same thing applies for Musa and all other prophets. As to the meaning of the name Musa: it is in Hebrew (the pulled from water) and in Coptic language (the newly born.)

Did Allah only tell us to seek Islamic knowledge and no other knowledge in the world, or do we seek both knowledge?

Allah told us to seek both needed knowledge about life so we can survive. People cannot live on Shari`ah studies only. From farming to medicine, to agriculture to technology these are all areas that serve the human needs and Muslims must take a lead in it.

Assalamu alikum I am a teenager who is having trouble with masturbation and I can't stop it. I'm 16 years old and I didn't mean to start it. it started by mistake a long time ago. I was at school and for some reason I got attracted to something and after a while I moved my legs and it happened I didn't even know what it was until I was way older and now I'm stuck doing it and I just can't stop and I would also like to know if all these sins are actually being counted on me since I didn't mean to start

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

Masturbation is human practice to bring relief from sexual needs that can visit the body every often. Although there is no direct verse of Hadith that speaks directly about the prohibition of it but there is a consensus among scholars that it is not permissible and haram except for Imam Ahmad in one of his views as he considered it permissible.

My advice for you is to have faith in yourself and to start slowing down on it. The much practice of it will make it an addiction that even with marriage later it will be the dominant way of sexual relief instead of the natural intercourse with a wife.

I have had women come and complain about husbands that they relief themselves even after marriage in this way and have not much interest in intercourse which is a right of a woman in marriage.

I am not expecting that you can totally be out from it, so take it easy on yourself and do not keep looking down at yourself. Avoid things that will prompt you to keep practicing it many times, keep busy, practice athletic activities. I lean to the view that a person can practice it only if he fears for adultery or Zina on himself and in the minimum number of times not the continuous addictive way.

is it permissible to make dua for height increase? and is there any particular dua that i can make

If you are in an age that growth in height is still possible, of course, you can make Dua and check for medical treatment that will help you in that.

If you are at an age that growing taller is not a chance anymore, focus of positive things in life that will make you feel good about yourself not by how tall are you but in what good can you enjoy life and offer help to people around you.

Some Sahabah, great people in history, scientists and leaders of the world were short! God will not judge us by our height of skin color but by our deeds. There are very tall people that they wish they are shorter!

You are beautiful in that which is in your heart as piety not in how tall or short you are.

If Allah had planned everything for us, won't we get the things planned irrespective of whether we work for it?

Allah is the Planner indeed for everything in this world but it is not disconnected from means and reasons for things to happen.

God’s plan is unknown to us; He the Almighty did not share it with us. He the Almighty wanted us to focus on that which is available for us to know; means and reasons.

For example, God decreed that someone will pass an exam in school, but if that person did not study, it will not happen.

So, you should focus on your part in means and reasons and trust God for the outcome.

I know we ought to please Allah, but if you want high marks in studies, what's the problem? what if we are doing both, pleasing Allah and trying to get high marks in studies? Is that okay?

It is okay and you are urged to learn and bring high marks in studies. Reaching high levels in studies will please Allah the Almighty.

Islam is a religion that urges people to learn and study sciences of the Shari`ah and regular ones of life.

There is a rule in Islam that says: “That which an obligation cannot happen without it, is an obligation.”

So learning the sciences of medicine, farming etc is an obligation for the community to survive in providing needed services in all aspects of life.

There is an ayah in Quran which says it is better for women to be at home, does this mean Islam literally doesn't allow women to go outside? What if I as a student want to go to the library and study till late hours over there? I feel Islam downsizes women.

Most of what people come to a conclusion about Islam is a misconception because they did not really spend time to study it all with its details.

The verse you spoke about was directed to the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him) after an issue that happened between them bringing the focus on the importance of the wife being at home taking care of her family first and as the most important thing, but that does not mean to prevent them from stepping out for all kinds of necessities including seeking knowledge.

There are too many examples to prove that point. For example, women at the time of Sahabah would go to battles to treat the injured.

Another example, when the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“Do not prevent the females to attend the houses of Allah.” (Al-Bukhari)

Ads by Muslim Ad Network

Another example is the one mentioned in the Qur’an about the two daughters of Prophet Shu`aib (peace be upon him) when they were taking the herd of sheep as shepherd to the pond of water.

So, let us not take one verse and disconnect it from the whole understanding of Islam.

No doubt, for a female to be home to care for her kids and her family is the most honorable thing.

Asalaamualaikum.... Please I have missed two years fasting due to pregnancy that I had when I got married. That is 60 days of not fasting. Please I will like to find out if I could be able to feed the poor daily for 60 days without repaying and how the feeding should be done. Thank you

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

Yes, indeed you can feed sixty people all at one time or separate without making the days again. This is the view of Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that pregnant and nursing women are considered among those who cannot bear it and they pay the Fidyah without need to make up days.

I have a friend who has a bad relationship, so i told her family to save her from this and her family saved him. As I told her family she has anger to me but sometimes tell me for your deed i am at right way. In this fluctuation I told my another friend (who has some friendship with her) to make her understand that I am telling her family for her goodwill. But my friend portrayed it wrong way,he makes her against me totally with false information. Now both of them do not want to talk with me and become good friend by backbiting against me.She does not believe my words now.In this situation can I tell a false about my false friend to reveal the truth to her and unmask him in front of her?

We do not treat a problem by throwing another problem at it. Nothing will save people like truth and honesty. A judgement has been made by you in a good intention but it was not received well by your friend and she felt you have betrayed her. You should have gone directly to her in the beginning explaining the intention behind the reason why you told her parents. Going to another friend was actually adding another level to the problem.

I believe you still have a chance to come clean of explaining exactly what had happened. It might not change the heart of your friend towards you but maybe with little time some healing will happen and I hope things will get back good between both of you insha Allah.

Like why can't Muslims just try to make peace and improve themselves and countries instead of waiting for two people? Look at America, they are kaffirs and yet they are 1st world countries. Why is Jesus called the Messiah? What is so important about them?

I agree 100%, people should not wait for a savior to come to fix things, only lazy people do that. Both the return of Jesus (peace be upon him) and the presence of Al-Mahdi are just signs of the Hereafter. Our reality should change by our will and intention to be better people. Allah the Almighty said:

“God will not change the status of people until they change the status of themselves”.

Allah the Almighty had set means for life that anyone can use it does not matter if you are a Muslim or not, there is no special treatment to anyone.

Messiah was in relation to the miracle that God gave him. He will wipe on them and they will be healed. It originates form the Arabic verse: masaha

Their importance as I mentioned before is that they are part of the signs of the Day of Judgment.

As salamu alaikum warahmatullahi wa barakatuh. What is the ruling on a believer who had wronged another believer due to their mistake and that believer is now suffering from their action such as being sick?

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

First we cannot confirm any punishment to any bad deed done before. Although the idea is possible, we have no right to connect a hardship like illness to a sin that happened before. Only Allah the Almighty and the Prophet (peace be upon him) can do that.

Second, any repentance has 4 conditions to it: remorse, stop, intend not to repeat and clear your issues with person you harmed.

Since you did not specify what the mistake you did was, you can go ask the person for forgiveness and return anything you took from him if that was the case.

SALAM ALIEKUM, AM DIS KIND OF PERSON THAT DO MAKES MISTAKES AND NOT SHARP AT DOING THINGS NOT THAT AM DULL BUT EACH TIME I READ AND DO EXAMS CORRECTLY AND I DON'T GRAP THINGS EASILY, I DNT PASS TO MY EXPECTATION , I PRAY AND TRY DOING RUKIA ABOUT IT BUT IT SEEMS WORST. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT I MIGHT HAVE DONE OR WHAT I SHOULD DO TO CHANGE THIS. JAZAKUMLIAKHAIRAN

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

It might be just a medical condition that you need treatment for better focus and physicians can help you in that.

You also need to consult experts on educational methods of learning and studying to make best of your way of studying and the effort you put on it.

Of course, the power of faith and the healing in the Qur’an recitation and making du`aa is always a powerful tool to lift our spirits up and give us self-confidence to perform better insha’ Allah.

Salam alaikum waramotulahiwabarakatuhu. First of all, I need to thank you for all your efforts trying to make us all a better Muslim, I've really learn a lot through the posts shared on this websites, we can never thank you enough, only Allah SWT can do that, jazakahllahukhairan! May Allah SWT continue to bless you with wisdom and knowledge to continue with this good work of yours.I love living my life the way that pleases Allah SWT. I have two question I need to ask please, and I will be so happy if you can enlighten me. Firstly, is it right or wrong for someone as a Muslim to be attracting to a particular race to chose as a partner? As in I'm a black, but I have this love for women from Muslim countries e.g Pakistan, Palestine, Afganistan. Have no bad intention only wish to accomplished that in a Islamic rightful way. Secondly, assuming we find each other and agreed to marry but our marriage is denied by our family, I wanna know if our union is being denied in the name of culture, and not deen, is there no fault with us if we proceed with the marriage, if our union is truly for the pleasure of Allah SWT? Thank you!

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

Yes, it is permissible to wish to marry someone from any race or culture. Allah said:

“O you people we have created you from a male and a female and we have made you nations and tribes so you may know one another. Indeed the best of you are those of piety.” (Al-Hujurat 49:13)

And one of the ways to get to know one another is marriage.

As for the second question, for a female’s first marriage, she must have the approval of her father or wali.

Ads by Muslim Ad Network

Marriage is not a relationship between two people only, but rather between two families. The family of the bride represented by her father must welcome you as their son in law.

Islam gave the right for the girl to veto anyone imposed on her by parents and gave the parents the veto to reject any one imposed on them by the girl.

Best marriages are those that are welcomed by all family members on both sides. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “any women marrying without consent of her Wali, then her marriage is not valid.” (Ahmad)

So, a female cannot marry without her father’s approval.

Now having said that, the parents are advised to look for faith, manners and good character in a groom when making a decision for their daughters not that of wealth or race or color.

Why are women not allowed to pray namaaz or fast or go to Hajj during their menstrual periods?

Islam is built on ease towards people, Allah said:

“He did not make of religion a burden on you in any matter.” (Al-Hajj 22:78)

The biological way that made women able to be pregnant was meant to be accommodated in the Shari`ah of Islam. It will be stressful with the change of hormones, moods and emotions to keep up with such obligations like Salah and fasting. And that is why it was not obligated on females to fast or pray during their menstrual periods.

Let me correct you though on the Hajj topic. A female can do Hajj even with her monthly period. With medications you can take pills to regulate your period for that week or stay few days to finish certain things like tawaf. But during Hajj you can stand on `Arafah, sleep in Muzdalifah or Mina and throw pebbles even while you are on your period. Cleanliness from the menstrual period is not a requirement for all that.

AsalaamuAlaykum, I was just wondering if the salt water challenge is halal to do in showing solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike?

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

Yes, it is.

Showing solidarity with people who are wrongly imprisoned is something honorable. It falls under a Muslim showing support to his Muslim brothers and sisters. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “the example of Muslims toward each other in love, mercy and care is like the example of a body. When one part feels pain it echoes to other parts of the body.” (Muslim)

am i allowed to keep any intention of marrying one from another kind?? like jinn?? i want to complete my obligatory part by marryng a jin! is this is haram or halal?? i need serious help i was attracted to super natural beings from the very fast childhood! though at that iwasnt known to the fact of pious jinn

Islam is a religion of reality and not that of the assumed paranormal activity that leads to nowhere.

Jinn are a world on its own and the area that relates to us is very limited and indeed it does not include a place for such relationships!

There is a dispute among scholars if such a matter can even happen in the first place.

I advise you to clear your mind from such thoughts and free yourself from this stressful burden.

So, yes it is haram to keep wishing a marriage with Jinn for it will harm you mentally and will cause you to be stressful all the time.

Now, having an interest to study such thing in the proper manner and be educated about it is allowed on an academic level.

Can we single out Friday for fasting?

No, you cannot unless it was a special day for fasting by itself like a Day of `Arafah or Ashura’. It is permissible to fast Friday joining another day with it like Thursday or Saturday.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “let no one fast the day of Friday except with a day prior to it or after it.” (Al-Bukhari)

Can we fast the day of doubt?

Yes, you can if you were used to fasting it before as I mentioned in the previous answer. It is good to add that if a person did fast it as part of Sha`ban but turned out to be of Ramadan, he must redo the day as the intention was not for Ramadan.

It is good to add that if a person did fast it as part of Sha`ban but turned out to be of Ramadan, he must redo the day as the intention was not for Ramadan.

Can we fast on the second half of Sha`ban?

Yes you can, especially if you are used to it every year or you fast days like Mondays and Thursdays.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “it is a month that deeds are brought up to God and I would like to be fasting during it.” (An-Nasa’i)

Only excluded from fasting of that month is the doubtful day which is the last day of Sha`ban one day before Ramadan.

It is better not to fast it unless it was a practiced habit. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “do not fast prior to Ramadan by a day or two except if a man was used on doing it.” (Al-Bukhari)

Can we use Miswak during fasting?

Yes you can. Miswak is not a food substance that you swallow to break your fast, it is just a brush for your teeth.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) told Muslims to use Miswak for each Salah (Al-Bukhari) and did not exclude Ramadan from it.
