Salam. In Islam I have learned that evil happens as a test for mankind but what about animals. I saw a video of a deer being eaten alive by Komodo dragons until it died. If animals are not being tested then why does evil happen to them? Why does Allah allow animal suffering? Thanks

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

I cannot comment on this; there are certain matters which are beyond our reasoning and rational analysis. We know that Allah is All-Wise and All-Compassionate. And often, we cannot comprehend the wisdom in some such matters. But He assures that ultimately at the end His mercy pervades and covers the manifestations of His wrath; such a demonstration of His infinite Mercy will take place in the Hereafter where justice and mercy will prevail in an ultimate sense.

We learn from the Quran that there certain matters of this transient world of senses may look strange or beyond our comprehension. However, their actual reality will be rendered clear to us as the divine wisdom will unfold in its true glory beyond doubt.
